Hi! I have been doing MIDI for some years now, but I need some help in a
new area. I just bought Audio Master, a sound sampler. Someone once
showed me that if you sample a sound, you can somehow upload it to your
keyboard and assign it to one of the keys. For instance, he showed me that
middle C on his keyboard played a woman's voice saying "Oh yeah". I have a
Peavey DPC keyboard hooked into my MIDI system. How do I take a sampled
sound and get it over to the keyboard. Is there some special format? Or
does the sound have to be sampled at a certain sampling frequency? Do you
do it through SYSEX, or do you load it into the keyboard as a wave file (my
keyboard can read from floppy disks)? Any help that anyone can offer would
be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You need a music program that will load Amiga samples and then let you
access them through a MIDI interface: Bars & Pipes, Music-X (very cheap at
the moment), Dr. T's KCS II, etc. If you actually want to dump your samples
into a sampling keyboard, then you need a to consult the manual about what
format your machine likes its raw data supplied in. I suspect that you
would be better off preparing your samples in AudiMaster and then carrying
out an analog transfer to the keyboard.

John, thanks for responding. I do have Bars & Pipes, but I do not see a
way of loading the sampled sound into it. You can only load MIDI songs
(unless I am missing some option). I do have the Bars & Pipes Professional
which is supposed to be able to do everything. As for consulting my
keyboard manual, I tried that too. Like most manuals, it told me
everything I needed to know about wave files except the format and how to
load them. You get a few sample waves from the factory that you can load,
but they don't tell you how to load your own. I tried directly loading a
raw sample created with Audio Master, but the keyboard got confused and
refused to load it. So that's where I am right now. Any ideas? Anything
would help…
Sorry, I don't actually have B & P, just Music X and a demo version of Dr.
T's. Both of these allow you to import Amiga samples and assign them in a
sequence. Which keyboard do you have? I can ask some of my colleagues if
they can help providing that I know what equipment you are using.
Actually, by far the best way to do this is to buy an AKAI S950,S1000 or
S1100 or the equivalent Roland sampler!

I have a Peavey DPM 3 Synthsizer. It's a pretty high end keyboard; it just
comes with a lousy manual. Maybe one of your friends will have some info.
If nothing else, I can always call Peavey tech support directly and ask
them. Once again, thanks for your input, and thanks for the advice on
keyboards. I will be looking for a new one in the near future and I want
to collect as much info as I can on which ones work best with MIDI and have
the most features (as well as sounding great).

The Music Box A add-on disk from Blue Ribbon Soundworks uased to include
a B&P tool called Amigophone. It plays all incoming MIDI info through the
Amiga's internal voices. This would allow you to selectively trigger Amiga
samples along with MIDI data being routed to external synths. Note in the
back of your B&P Pro manual that Amigophone is currently listed as part of
the Internal Sounds Kit add-on disk.
You can call BRS to order or get it from a local dealer. The Music Box A
disk has several other slick little gadgets to add to B&P. The Internal
Sounds Kit adds several sampled instruments.

What he needs is a Software like Synthai pro to send to the DPM 3-se the 16
bits sample that he wants . The DPM 3se from PEAVEY got 1 megabyte of ram
that could be played by the Keyboard . So he has to download a sample thru
midi into the sample player area of the DPM 3 . I think that is what he

Your note said to look on AMIGAARTS for more info. Well, here I am but I
am not sure where to look. There seems to be nothing on the board about
it. Please point me in the right direction because I am sure this is the
path I should be following. I know my Peavey accepts SDS formatted
samples, so I just need to know what that format is and how to get my
samples in SDS. Thanks again.
I am sorry but that was left to an other person . There is a software that
does that transfer for you and it is Synthia Pro That piece of software
enable you to create instruments of different format and use . 16 bits 12
bits and 8 bits are supported . So you can use those amiga 8svx sample on
your PEAVEY
with that software . There is an other package but I don't remenber the
name of it .
On the general subject of sampled sounds, but re the SunRize board… I
note in the latest AW there's company called CeV Designs that has A2000
boards for the 500; they attach to the CPU expansion bus (I presume this is
the expansion slot where I have my GVP HD). So, can I now use the SunRize
boards by removing my HD? Anyone see any problems? Is there a SunRize rep
on CIS?
