Crashing problems
3 messages in this thread
I have been having a problem with ProPage 3.0 crashing on exiting the
program. I am running a Progressive 040 board and am not sure if that is
the problem. I do not have the "crashing" problem with other programs.
Any inputs or ideas? It does not affect projects I am working on as it
only happens when I exit the program. It is a little disconcerting though
:(.

Norm,
The `Crash when Quit' problem (as it has come to be known) is being looked
at. It was discovered quite some time ago and was discussed here briefly.
To recap: It effects a very small number of machines (I know, little
comfort to those it does) AND happens on any know configuration–from A500
to machines with 040 boards.
The tough thing is getting it to happen here at GD. We can't re-create the
problem on any machine in Tech, Development, Beta-sites, local computer
stores, or on staff home-machine.
Development have narrowed it down to memory-trashing but that is about it
at this time.
There is also no effective work around. Some users have suggested: -close
all WorkBench windows first
-don't use CGfonts or use a bit-map font first
-use CGfonts first
-use the keyboard shortcut quit
-use the pulldown menu to quit
-select new first before quiting
-run form cli only
-run from the icon only
-don't run ARexx
Many suggestions have come in…but it seems to depend on your system.

Philip,
" For a while there I have been free of the 'Crash when Quit' syndrome, but
then it happened to me again. It seems, I thought, to be caused by a
project with multiple fonts and graphics on it, but then sometimes that
doesn't affect the Quit. The last time it did it to me was Sunday night the
9th, I had PPage, Pagestream and Post running, over a period of time. I've
been converting typefaces from MAC format to CG and .PFB running AMAXII and
metamorphosis on the MAC emulator to make .AFMs, rebooting and loading
FontManager, PPage, and Pagestream, and checking the .PFB fonts with Post
to see if they'll load. Plus I was running MI-M2I to convert the MAC format
outline fonts to the .PFB format. I've found several Type1 fonts of either
Bitstream, or Cassidy & Green Type Foundries that Fontmanager hangs on and
refuses to Abort, it just keeps on running the fuel gauge on the right
stopped either 1/4 to 2/3rds of the way from full until the system just
locks up. Sometimes I just ignore the lockup and go test the fonts in PPage
or Pagestream until they're window locks up and then reboot. I've seen the
yellow alert screen, but it doesn't recover it just cycles back and forth,
finally locking up, a reboot gets me the red screen and usually an 8100 for
part of the error code. BTW I sent you a sample problem Type 1 font to
examine. That one gets nearly completed in FontManager, but hangs up
eventually. I've tried every conversion trick the programs I have will
allow. I even loaded it into Font Studio and made a new font family from
it, but my version only makes Type 3 fonts. So now I'm going to try and
load the Type 3 I made into Metamorphosis Professional and tell it to
convert the type 3 to Type 1. See if it does it. Let me know if you find
out anything about that typeface.
