#4000 Accelerator
8 messages in this thread
I noticed your ad for an '040 accelerator for the Amiga 4000 in the Jan
Issue of AmigaWorld. How does this accelerator compare to the stock 4000
'040 and to the GVP '040 accelerator for the Amiga 2000? Where does this
'040 board fit in the 4000? What is the $$$ of this board? Does this
have any compatability problems with the Toaster 4000?
Thanks…

Thanks for noticing! This accelerator replaces the Commodore processor board
entirely, and will function with an A4000/040 or an A4000/030, and will also
function in an A3000s and A3000Ts.
The board is 40MHz and is a LOT faster than the 25MHz '040 currently in
A4000/040's. As far as the A2000 '040, this one is faster since the clock
speed is higher. Pure rendering, this one adds minutes together to gain hours
over the A2000-040, but in general use, the faster A4000 motherboard and
graphics subsystem add up to significant speed increases.
"Does this have any compatability problems with the Toaster 4000?"
Nope! 🙂 We're actually showing a pretty powerful A4000/040 with a GVP
GForce040/A4000 installed, running a Video Toaster 4000 and an EGS-28/24
SPECTRUM in the same machine for a pretty heavy-duty workstation-type
feeling…

The new processor sounds completely awesome!!!is there an MMU and FPU involved
with the board and finally how long till it's out and how much,if you don't
have exact specs please estimate-my rendering time thanks you and so do I!
Gary, does this board need the new SuperBuster to work? And does it have
an option for a decent SCSI add-on?

OK, now "What is the $$$ of this board?"
And when is the availability?

Gary,
I called GVP today and they couldn't give me a price on the '040 for the
A4000. Then I called Devine and they said that they will be offerring an
upgrade from the existing '040 in the 4000 to the GVP '040. Price?? They
said to call back in a couple of weeks. This new accelerator for the 4000
sounds fast!
If I hear anything else I'll let you know.
