Gold Disk: Is there a bug fix available for Desktop Budget? As you already know, the dates in the transaction record change by themselves when they are selected. This is ANNOYING! Granted, the Amiga has never been one for solid business software (Home finance and spreadsheets), so Desktop Budget is one of the few quality commercial products out there for people who want to keep their bills and payments straight. It is a solid program which I regret you are not supporting as well as you should, and that's a shame. I am a registered user, but that doesn't mean much, does it? Angel Pagan

Angel, I've been waiting 2 years for them to fix the inability to balance a checkbook foed by auto deposit and drained by auto withdrawals on a periodic basis. It was a promising program but I believe GD has just decided to let it die out – probably parted ways wityh the programmer. wmc

They've promised me upgrades too, but I haven't seen any. Do you have any suggestions. Do you know anything about PHASAR and HOMEFRONT? Perhaps there's something in the Public Domain libs? Angel Pagan

I tried Phasar when it was at rev 3.0 and didn't like it. It been so long I cant recall why, but I believe one of the things that I didn't like was the restiction to 9 chars of all labels, or something like that. wmc

Okay then; how about HOMEFRONT 2.0? the 8/92 issue of Amiga World gave it an awful review, but what else is there for Amiga Users who want to use their computers for household budgeting/accounting? Have you tried anything from the public domain libs? Are you using anything right now that you would recommend? Angel Pagan

Angel, The only thing I can suggest is to so your own in a spreadsheet. I gave up since DTB had the bug that wouldn't allow me to balance accounts, or reeconcile credit cards to budget categories. I'm not using anything now. (Well, actually I'm using an accountant who does finacial planning too :^} wmc

If you're willing to spend your money overseas, there's always Home Accounts 2 – From England. (I haven't seen it, but the ads and reviews say it's darn good. ^_-) Len Lekx [73300,723]

Thanks for the input! But entering the figures in British pounds would confuse me terribly. I can't even grasp the metric system. <g> Angel Pagan

Angel- From what I understand, Home Accounts allows input in dollars as well as pounds. (I can't verify this, however, as I don't have any current reviews on it. *_*) Len Lekx [73300,723]

I just checked and it doesn't use any currency symbols so Pounds & pence, Dollars & Cents or Francs & Centimes all work equally well! I recommend it it should save you its cost in a few months! – via Whap!

Do you know of any mailorder co. that I can order it from? Angel Pagan

I can confirm that Home accounts works well, Its not the slickest system you will ever come across (the graphics in the Budget progress part are awfull!) but its relativly cheap and does its job well. – via Whap!

Malcolm- > Home accounts works well, Its not the slickest system > its relativly cheap and does its job well. Are you talking about Home Accounts I or II? I've heard that they revamped the user interface to give it a better look. Len Lekx [73300,723]

I am talking of Home Accounts 1… It would certainly benefit from a neater user interface, but good looks aside I does a good job. – via Whap!

Wayne, Believe or not, we are still accessing Desktop Budget…I unfortunately I have no further news on it yet. Philip Laitar Supervisor

Phil, If you want a budget that breaks the cheeckbook balance function, let me know. I'll bundle it up and send it again. Basically it was the split transaction on periodic deposits that caused the problem, I believe. BTW, I couldn't get the credit card payments to split out to appropriate budget catagories. Wen you drop a payment on the card and it asks you if you want to split out the payment by category (forgot the words) if you select yes it ignores you. wmc

Wayne, Sure, if you are willing to send the buggy checkbook problem, I will pass it on…BUT please include details on how we can see the problem…a developer will want to know this and chances are I will just send it along…so instructions will need to be specific. Thanks Philip Laitar Supervisor

Angel, Sorry, but Tech Support has not been informed of a pending release date for Desktop Budget. Philip Laitar Supervisor

Does this mean you still support the product? An upgrade will be available at some future date? I bought the program (bugs and all) directly from Gold Disk. While I love it's wonderful interface, the date bug ticks me off. I'm close to giving up on it completely… Angel Pagan

Angel, We still support DTB and I honestly hope to see not only a fix but an update…but if/when…???? Philip Laitar Supervisor

Phil, Is there anything I can do about the annoying date bug for now (other than entering different dates — I forget to do that from time to time!) On the whole, I'm satisfied with the program, as it meets my needs. I would be grateful if you guys can patch this little problem before I get too discouraged with it. Can you E-Mail a patch?
