Could give alittle more detail on your problem with Nursery, I'm thinking
of buying it for a forensic animation.
Has anyone else have some experience with Nursery and 3D Surf ??
Regards………Rick
Rick, I have purchased both Nusery and 3Dsurf. 3DSurf worked fine both
generating landscapes and creating them from data files. Nursery had a
problem where it would only create one tree type. Any other tree type hung
the system. I phoned them yesterday and they are sending me an
upgrade/fixed version. Different then Martin I could create the demo tree
at different complexity levels. Hope this info helps. Doug.
Doug:
I'm glad to see there is some experience with these programs. When you
created the landscape from the data files, were you creating a terrain from
a actual site. If so, did you get your data from a survey of the site?
Could you have grass in some areas and asphalt in another?
I will be interested to here if their upgrade/fix solves all the problems
with Nursery. Please let me know as soon as you know something.

Rick the data files where created with a program called Fractint (a
freeware program found in the COMART forum). The real intent of data files
is from survey or CAD files. I know that through 3DS manipulations you
could diffent elements of a object show different materials, but I do not
know if could be read from a data input file. the data files appear to be
just triangle triplets. I am just learning 3DS so I am not a good source
for techincal questions. Doug.
Doug:
Thanks for your reply. I am trying to figure out what is involved in
creating a mesh that represents the real terrain at an accident site.

Rick,
sorry that's all the detail my feeble memory will access. I know, I should
write down the trees which cause crashes and report them to Schreiber. It
sounds like they may have an update already. Just don't expect to do many
geometrical trees – I'm mainly using texture/opacity maps from Imagecels by
Imagetects which look pretty good if you make a "*" type shape looking from
the top viewport. (e.g. create one mapped 2d rectangle then shift/rotate 45
degrees). I've created extensive landscaping this way – something I'm sure
wouldn't be practical with Nursery (yet).

Your mind may be old, but its sure not feeble…..is it? <grin>. I've tried
the mapping of images on a 2D face and works nicely, but I wanted to have
another trick in my pocket.
