1) Do anybody know if there is any release date for the "new" Amiga model? ("next generation" Amiga) I want do the big move from an accellerated A500 to the super-68040 machine. 2) Has CBM finally released the High-density disk drive ?? Is it widely available in the U.S. ?? (The A-Max II ad in p.19 on AmigaWorld of July, says "Accesses 1.4 Mb. Macintosh disks using Commodore's new high-density drive") Fernando Cassia. Buenos Aires, Argentina.

I work for an Amiga dealership in Chesapeake Va. To answer your questions there has been no announced release date for any new Amiga computers. However, all dealers (and developers) are being asked by Commodore to go to Pasadena, CA to the World of Amiga show in September. Perhaps there will be some news there. The high density drive, though appearing in some machines from Commodore US is still not a product from Commodore US. Sounds strange eh? Well in order for a product to be considered a product you have to be able to order the product as a stand-alone option. Currently we have no dealer pricing or availability information on the new high-density drive. In fact, the system descriptions have not changed in the A3000 line though the systems shipping with 386 bridge boards already installed thus far have had the new drive. The A3000T has had the drive for some time as well. So, you tell me, are they available or not? 🙂 -mark= – whappity whap whap… whap whap!!

Mark, Where exactly is Chesapeake? I couldn't find it on my map. I can't even find an Amiga store in NC. So maybe I'll try north of here a little. – via Whap!

Chesapeake, VA is just north of North Carolina, in fact, it is very close and borders with Norfolk and Virginia Beach. -mark= – whappity whap whap… whap whap!!

I should have mentioned that I live in Mt. Airy. I'm right on the border of VA but all the way on the west side of NC. Who knows though, I need to get out of the house and do some driving anyways. I've lived here four years and still haven't seen any of the east coast. Darren Ramey Mayberry NC – via Whap!

You should come out.. the 'right' coast is a very nice place to be! -mark= – whappity whap whap… whap whap!!

The right coast ain't bad at all. I was just there last weekend, I'm a native left coaster myself. The beaches out here aren't quite as fast paced (crowded) as in Southern Cal. but the water sure is nice and warm. Darren Ramey Mayberry NC – via Whap!

Where in NC are you (talking from Raleigh/Cary here)? We had a real Amiga store here in town up until about 2 weeks ago. Chesapeake is next to Virginia Beach/Norfolk on your map right on the coast. From Raleigh that is about a 4 hour drive.

Mt. Airy is about 40 miles north of Winston-Salem. Actualy I work in Winston and am hoping to move there pretty soon. (I've just got to get local to a Compuserve node.) I was just at the beach last weekend. On the drive back I stopped in almost every town and checked the phone book. I drove all over Durham trying to find one store but when I got to the address I found a tailor shop. I must have missed the one in Raleigh. Good thing I did, seeing another one out of business would have depressed me. So where's the closest Amiga dealer to you now? Darren Ramey Mayberry NC – via Whap!

Actually, the one in Durham that you were looking for was TDS which is/was SBS in Cary, but it just closed its doors. I believe that there is one in Charlotte now (which is a little closer to you than Virginia Beach).

I'll check on the store in Charlotte. I was planning on heading down that way pretty soon. Thanks for the info. Darren Ramey Mayberry NC – via Whap!

Let me know what you find. When I was up in DC, there was a couple of stores in Tysons Corner that carried Amiga Software (2 shelves to boot), but there wasn't any real push for them (being in the very back of the store).

Triad Computers in W-S will still repair Amigas. They just don't want to sell them or software anymore. They were pretty good to me last time I neaded my monitor fixed. They do have a very small amiga section in Software Ect. at Hanes Mall in W-S. Way in the back. Oh well, I'll keep looking. Darren Ramey Mayberry NC – via Whap!

What? SBS closed up already? Does Digitz in Raleigh still carry Amigas?
#26934From: John Toebes/SYSOPAug 16, 1992 4:28 PM
I personally would not ever take any piece of my own equipment to Digitz for any reason whatsoever. The last time I dealt with them, they charged SAS over $300 to fix an Amiga 500.

Feranando… none of the products you have mentioned have even been announced by CBM, no less released. Look for news of new products to come from the World Of Commodore show in Pasadena, CA in mid-September. I'm sure you'll see ots of messages here in the forum about any new products. // Michael \X/ …on AutoPilot
