AZERTY PPage & PDraw
5 messages in this thread
I have some problems with PDraw 3.0.
My configuration is :
A2000, A2620, A2088, IVS Trumpcard + Quantum 40 MB and AZERTY keyboard
PDraw 3.0
When I type a text (using any font), PDraw uses the settings for a QWERTY
keyboard and not the AZERTY keyboard (when I try to use the A [AZERTY], I
got a Q [QWERTY mode]). The A for the AZERTY keyboard is at the same place
than the A for the AZERTY keyboard. This problem doesn't happen with the
requesters.
I would like to have some help with problem. Do I forget some setting with
PDraw or is it a bug?
Thank you
Eric

This is a problem with PDraw itself … I reported it as a bug to Gold-Disk
but have not yet had any response (I use a slightly non-standard keymap,
and using PDraw with text is _very_ confusing!!)
For some reason, the programmers have not taken account of the keyboard map
in use, and they assume that you have a standard US keyboard. My guess is
that they are getting characters from the keyboard in a slightly unorthodox
manner and not doing a translation through the keymap. For some it's going
to be a nuisance, for others it's a major problem … and it's contrary to
Commodore's instructions in the Amiga style-guide.
When you use requesters and so on, that's the Amiga grabbing characters
from the keyboard and it knows how to do it properly 🙂
Until PDraw does things right, I don't think there is anything that you can
do but live with it.
By the way (and before one of the SYSOPs points it out), there is a policy
here in AmigaUser which requires people to use their full names in the
forum rather than a nickname. You can change your nickname to your full
name by through the OPTION command at the main Forum prompt.
I assume that you are from the Netherlands … with a nickname like
Appeldoorn. I haven't been there for a long time, but I do remember its
being a beautiful place.

Thank you for your answer. I will report the bug to Gold Disk. I hope that
GD will correct that if they receive enough bug report.
By the way, Appeldoorn is not a nickname but my name. Nevertheless I will
change it to Eric Appeldoorn.
One last think, if Appeldoorn is a Dutch name, I am from Belgium.

It is not a bug, in order for certain changes to be made in the latest
version of PDraw (3.0) the development staff changed the way Pdraw handles
keymaps.
Essentially, PDraw reverts back to the keymap USA, hence the problems you
are experiencing.
They are hoping to modify this situation in the future.

Thanks for the answer. I hope the modification will be available in the
near future.
