This is a press release describing version 6.0 of the SAS/C(r)
Development System for AmigaDOS. New features include online help, a
peephole optimizer, and various new options for customizing and speeding
up the development process.
The release date in this file is September 15th, and there's an ad for it
in the September issue of Amazing, but someone in my user group said that
he had called SAS just a few days ago and heard it was delayed for an
unspecified amount of time. Anybody know about this?
No — Give SAS a call and get the straight scoop. At $109, I'll probably
pass on it.
Do you use SAS now or do you use something else? If you use SAS, it really
is worth upgrading. The new code generator is really something compared to
the old one. (Just recompiling will probably knock 10% off the size of an
executable).

I was just being "resistant". I'll no doubt upgrade to 6.0. The price
($109) thru me off as that's 50% of what I paid for the compiler to begin
with. The new manuals would be worth it (assuming it's indexed better and
more logically laid out).

Considering that it's roughly a third of the cost of the 6.0 version
bought new, it's not really over-priced. Or so I believe based on other
update costs I've seen.
Granted, I think all of us would like to see a lower price! 🙂

If we're talking about SAS/C 6.0 it indeed has not been delayed for an
unspecified amount of time. As with all products that haven't literally
shipped, the exact date of release can be somewhat elusive (and I'm not
trying to say anything about SAS here, we slip some of our date too: exact
dates get hard to pin down, even when everything is ok). From what I
recall, and see, the Sept 15 date seems close in the range.
No, it has not been delayed. September 14 is the ship date.
If they phoned the Institute, they were probably told that
their order would arrive within a few weeks of that date,
because of back orders. We'll be shipping in large
quantity starting September 14, but it will still take
quite a bit of time to clear the backorders.
