What is a good trackball for the Amiga?

I have the Wico trackball that I bought when it was the only one available.
I've never had a problem with it, although I'm not a great fan of
trackballs so I don't use it much. My favorite usage is to plug it into
port 2 and use it with Amouse for the BB. That way, grabbing the mouse
always give me control of the Amiga and the trackball gives me control of
the BB.

Note that the _standard_ Wico trackball only emulates a joystick.
Instructions were circulated a while back for adding mouse emulation to
it, and a third-party company actually modified a number of units and sold
them as a mouse replacement. But if you find Wicos at retail outlets (I
still see them in bargain bins sometimes), they only work as joysticks…

I was unaware of that little bit of history. I got my Wico trackball about
4 years ago. The model on it says WICO TRACKBALL 72-4521. It has a
sticker attached to the box that says "Commodore AMIGA mouseport" in
several places, and it does function as a mouse, not a joystick. Now that
you mention it, it may well be a third party modification.

I use a Alfa Data track ball and love it. never had problems with it. It is
also comfortable to use. I see them advertized in amiga magazines. hope it

Ditto on the Alfa Data, except that I do have some trouble with it sticking
in use sometimes. But I like it a lot better than the mouse since my
desktop is so small. The lock down button is nice for drawing, too.

I;ve got a MicroSpeed AMTRAC. I like it. It has been very dependable. It
is physically kind of large though. Can't fit it in the keyboard drawer.
I'd like to be able to compare it to some of the PC microtrackballs that
are becoming popular for laptops to see whether bigger is really better.

I too have a AMTRAC and enjoy it. However I sometimes get a numb wrist if
i'm really working with it,(Drawing, dragging a lot if stuff, ect.) But it
helps me keep my desk from being cluttered. Also the center lock down
button is great for keepin' da "pedal" down when racing INDI 500!!!

Thanks for the recommendation! I saw a review by Graham Heywood
entitled, "Get On The Track(ball)" in AMIGA NEWS, June 1992, page 13.
I was impressed and expect to get one soon!
