GOOD NEWS: I talked to NewTek June 29, 1992 regarding my problems with
horizontal lines on framestores and dark screen on CG. They told me that
software update to correct both of these problems would be sent to me in a
week or so. I received the floppy on August 17,1992. There was no charge
for this service. BAD NEWS: The new software didn't make the slightest
difference in either problem. I am not upset since I have learned to work
around both of these problems. I am puzzled, though.

Are you running a DPS personal TBC. If so, contact them for an update to
their software. They are experiencing a prob that throws the Toaster's
timing off and gives the same results.

Does this apply to the original Personal TBC, or just TBC II ? I have an
original and don't have any software to update . Is this a ROM upgrade?

As far as I know, it applies only to TBC II.

John-My two problems are 1) Horizontal lines with framestores directly to
HD from switcher and 2) Dark screen with CG. The new NewTek software
upgrade has no effect on either. I am using TBC IIs and V-Scope by DPS. I
recently received the "latest" DPS software ver 2.4. It also has no effect
on either of my problems. As I have said before, I can live with both of
these "problems". It is easy enough to framestore to RAM or floppy then
transfer to Hard Disk– and I am used to the CG dark screen. When NewTek
told me that the software upgrade would solve BOTH problems all at once, I
was excited. Thank you for your interest and help.

I also had horizontal lines from fs (I never tried saving/loading from
RAM). The problem went away when I ran the toaster without connecting my
TCB-II/V-Scope, so I was sure I had a problem with one of the boards. I
found that with the TBC-II connected to Input 1, I sometimes got H-lines
and a repeated reload of the same fs resulted in a clean copy. I also
developed a second problem in that the TBC would fail altogether.
A call to Eric Fay at DPS was a great help. He told me that 2.4 should
take care of the horizontal lines, and the total failure was due to a
problem with the crystal, which they knew about and had to replace.
Since the board came back with 2.4 software, the problem was solved.

I have the exact same problem with the same hardware. What was the
turnaround time?
On a side note…
When you capture taped video do you use the TBC freeze frame or do you do
it live?

the upgrade should solve both! Make sure you have Toaster 2.0 and not 1.0
also, you'll know the software installed correctly if you go into CG and
the screen colors are now black screen with white text. If they are still
gray screen with black text, you do not thave the upgrade installed.

John, what is this upgrade about? I have the toaster 2.0, have no major
problems other than the positionables lock up every once in a while. My cg
pages are white on gray, which means i have the older version of 2.0. Do I
need the upgrade, or is it only for specific problems? george
John-I am very embarrassed, red-faced and chagrined. The NewTek software
upgrade DOES in fact correct my horizontal line problem AND my dark screen
CG problem. Your subtle suggestion that maybe I hadn't installed the
upgrade was CORRECT ! I thought I had it installed because there was a
new subdirectory "ToasterUpdateDisk" in my Toaster directory with 9 files.
I decided to check out these files and found out that only one was
executable and that was a decompressing utility. I started all over and
actually INSTALLED the new software. The horizontal lines are gone and the
CG is white on black just as you said. My only defense is that I am new to
Amiga after many years on IBM and MS DOS. Thank you for rescuing me—I
hope I didn't lead others astray or downgrade the value of the software
upgrade.

What is your workaround?
AmigaWorld-My horizontal line problem occurs only on writing to Hard Disk
from the Switcher. I have no problem with framestore reading. My
workaround is to write to RAM or Floppy rather than to HD, then copy the
file to HD. From what everyone here is telling me, the problem MAY be
related to my TBC-II—-athough the new DPS software (ver 2.4) has not
corrected the problem. I do not consider this a major problem–it has not
really interfered with my use of the TOASTER at all.

another workaround is to save the framestore from within TPaint, not only
does it not give you lines but it also will compress the file.
