Tiger Cub

I have Tiger Cub and like it very much. I'm using it on an A2500-20 with 7
megs, never had a crash yet.
*** SLY ***
*** SLY ***, I just sat down to another session with TC. When I was in
Quick Score with a very simple 8 bar sequence, full score, I selected the
Display option from both the menu and the Amiga D key. Both times the
program just sat there and eliminated the menus. That left me with no way
to get back to TC or Workbench or anywhere else. Also, it agravates me that
with a perfectly good multitasking environment already established, that
they could find no way of utilizing it or were determined to implement
their own. I am refering to MPE. I think it is a waste of effort for
Amigans to have to learn a new system of getting around. If I am in TC and
wish to start up QS, I must make sure to do so by exiting to the Workbench
by the MPE option…not the backscreen gadget or the Amiga M & N keys.
Failure to do this has caused TC to lock up completely at worst case or
just not loaded QS in other cases. I find this frustrating. At the very
least, I feel they should have include some sort of warning and or code
that watched out for this sort of natural assumption on the part of
Amigans. Could they have used the Amiga enviroment and 'piped' the
necessary info to QS? Thanks for your comments and help…. Kurt
Kurt,
Dr T's MPE environment is a port from the Atari ST system of doing
things. They needed to bring to that platform a way of sharing data between
programs and a way of "multitasking". I'm sure most of the code and
architecture is the same. I'm also sure that they could have found a better
way to implement it on the Amiga, but that's Dr T's way of doing things. I
believe David Silver is still the only full time Amiga programmer at Dr T,
so time restraints have to be taken into consideration.
Regards,
Allen
I should get around to UL'ing that one by the end of the weekend.
BTW, you do remember these are all being made available for NON-commercial
use?
If you want to make money using these objects, you are at least _morally_
obligated to tell me about it. :^)
Have Fun, and Thanks!,

Erik,
Just so we'll all know, what would you want from any of us who might want to
use the objects in commercial projects ??
Jerry
It's negotiable. We're talking fairly cheap (I mean they're out there
already – not much I can do about controlling them at this point. :^)
I mainly put that disclaimer in there because I saw the Fender Strat used
in an opening graphic for the Rock Video Monthly tape that's being so
widely advertised in print. (It was kind of a surprise to check out the
graphic and see something I had uploaded long ago. It would have been nice
to at least get a copy of the finished animation – without having to pay
for it, that is.)
In the case of the EarthT4000 object, it would have been included in the
Toaster3.0 release, had NewTek known who the creator was. I had uploaded
it long ago, back when I first started my business. Since there was no
real copyright info with my initial release, NewTek used it to create
Effects, but didn't know who to contact to get rights for general
distribution. (BTW, that one's pretty much a freebie – use it as you wish.
[No wait! Just don't map Rush Limbaugh's face on it or something!! I've
seen your handiwork! Maybe I shouldn't be so free about granting usage
privileges.] :^)

Erik,
Thanks for the reply. No, I wouldn't put Rush's face on any of your freebies.
🙂
If you're the submitter of the earth object in the T4000 effect, though, you'll
be extremely pleased to know that it was used in Rush's opening graphic 3 times
last week! (Along with captioning that read "BUBBA… EUROTOUR 1994… Coming
soon to a McDonald's near you…) 🙂
Seriously, thanks. I've downloaded the JPEG image of the earth object, and it
looks great!
Jerry
Oh joy. (Yeah, I see the 'Dittoheads' are just goin' crazy with the
ToasterFX – real professional. :^)
Glad you like the earth object – it'll take you about 20 minutes/frame.

Erik,
My first comment about the fact that the new Rush show was being done
on a Toaster was that they need to cut way back on the Toaster FX.
It's a lot better now; at first they were using the Kiki Fairy
effect and such. It's obviously the same earth object, spinning at
the same speed as in the effect, but they've managed to center it on
the screen. Any idea how they're doing that??
I don't watch the show anymore. (My girlfriend says Rush gets me just a
little _too_ upset, and turns it off whenever I try to watch it. He's
almost as goofy as Pat Robertson. :^)
As for the globe spinning in the middle of the screen, they could have
blown up the first effect with a downstream Toaster/ADO, or they could
have re-rendered the globe using the old Globe.lha files.

Oh well, I'm a fan of Rush and Pat Robertson. Pat's graphics look _much_
better, however…
Jerry
Make money? Some day I'd like tobe able todo that, but it ain't on my
horizon by a long shot….
But what are your views about possibly using the material for dispaly on
the PBS station where I work?
-Pat "Cruising the North Coast
on Autopilot"
Sounds like 'Non-commercial' use to me – I _assume_ you are donating your
time?!? :^)
Maybe you could send me a copy of the final animation?
Thanks for asking,
Keep On Toastin'
Erik Flom
Actually, I am employed there as an engineer, but I get no renumeration
for any toaster work that appears on-air.
As for sending you the animation, sure, provided I can weedle the time to
do it. What with the Toaster being in the Production Studio, about the
only time it or the equipment connected to it isn't being used is when I'm
not there!
-Pat "Cruising the North Coast
on Autopilot"
I'd just be curious to see how it gets used – the first object 'Globe.lha'
was real popular amongst the Televangelists. (Eeeeeeek! :^)
Have Fun!

I wonder what use could be made of my Brain object – nahh.
Maybe they could use yer Brain Model on "Beakmans World"
I think Brains and Televangelism are mutually exclusive. :^)

Erik Flom
Well, how about just the brainstem.
Well, it takes all kinds! <grin>
Erik:
I downloaded your file, EARTH1.lha, but I cannot locate the files
Earth2.lha and Earth3.lha anywhere in the AmigaForums. Have they been
uploaded yet? I'd like to get them so I can finish rendering the world.
…. Doug
Thanks for your patience! – And my humblest apologies! :^)
I tried to upload them all using AutoPilot – the library filled up – AP
got some flag set weird, so I now have to re-enter my descriptions, etc.
I just uploaded a sample image, dso I see there's room.
I'll upload the rest right now……Hope you've got a fast modem…:^)
(Seriously, I'm UL'ing a sample image of the earth too – you may want to
check that one first – decide if it's worth it. :^)
A side benefit of having to wait to upload the files: I saw a color
picture of Mexico at night in a magazine the other day – it prompted me to
change to the version of the Earth where the cities glow in a dusky brown,
rather than the white I was initially going to upload. Since that only
effected the archive Earth2.lha, no one got the wrong version.
The files should be there by tomorrow…..Enjoy!
