The code generator did not come from other SAS efforts. The optimizer was done largely by Jack Rouse and then by someone else, but it took a bit of adaptation to bring it into the new compiler scheme. The debugger is yet another story which basically had to be done by the Amiga people (at the time I left). I had rewritten major parts of the user interface in order to make it run on the Unix box using X, that version of CPR was what was being worked on at the time.

John, remember that your information is a year out of date. We have a new version of GO that has had significant work no only by Jack but also by Mark Gass and others. CPR has its own development group with four developers in it, and much of the work that they have done is portable. –Doug
