I have a Floptical drive brought from TTR. I hear that TTR is officially
out of business. I would like to organize all Floptical Amiga users both
DMI and TTR. At least, a list of users and thier perfered contact address
electronic, fax, phone or regular mail or online id for email. The list
would be updated and uploaded on as many of the Amiga national networks and
bbs as possible. The list would also contain news pertaining to the
floptical of a general nature such as I saw the 21Meg. flopticals at Tenex
Computer Express mail order house Mishawka IN. for $17. And that is a real
news item.

I can't say that I have a flopticle, but I can vouch for Tenex. I
live close to them, and they really do have extremely good prices. I'd
recomend them to anyone.

I own a DMI floptical (made by Insite) and really like it. Fortunately,
there is not much a company CAN do to support the floptical; DMI packages
it as a plain SCSI device with installation instructions ('ala hard-disk)
and is a very simple device, considering what it can do. I understand that
TTR had a driver for the thing, but I don't see how it is essential to
using the floptical.. It probably only provides the ability to change
partition types/sizes by inserting a differently formatted or partitioned
disk (the DMI can't do this.. you need to reboot with the new format in the
floptical drive to use that format).
As for floptical costs, I thought that DMI themselves were selling them
for near $10 a piece. They've already cost-reduced them… I have one of
the newer ones; they are dark-grey and have a stiff plastic shutter.
I urge you to turn to DMI for continued floptical support. They are a
pioneering Amiga company, and although I think they'll be around for a
while, could use the extra patronage.
FYI, Cross-Dos 5 supports the floptical drives, and I believe that you can
even read MSDOS formatted 1.44 in it.

I can already r/w MSDOS 720K and 1.44M disks in the floptical using
CrossDos 4, but I have to use tricky, uh, tricks to get CrossDos to
recognize them. Thanks for the info on V5.. you would think as a registered
owner I'd get a flyer of some sort about the new version.
I got such a device and i am glad to learn that i can read 1.44 M.

may wish to contact them and make sure they have your (correct) address in
their database.
