RUMOR/RUMOR/RUMOR!!! The following message was picked up by a friend on
USENET and passed on to me… sorry, can't vouch for the accuracy of
ANYTHING in the message, but since the WOC Show is sooo close, why not
feed the fires of our imginations? <g>

Commodore Canada has officially announced a number of products.
– Hard Drive for CDTV expansion slot (presumably 2.5" IDE ala A600)
– DCTV upgrade card for CDTV (for CDTV video slot)
– Amiga 4000 an official product!!! To be shown to the public at WOC
Pasadena on September 12! It ***WILL*** have the AA ChipSet! Finally
the speculation is about to end!!
– AA ChipSet (as said above) officially announced.
– 600HD officially announced and SHIPPING with *40* meg drive, not the 20
meg the European versions have. It will retail for $799 Suggested
Canadian Retail, with street price likely to be lower in most centres
(definitely so if the units start selling in quanitity).
– A570 officially announced. No word on whether it will have internal
RAM and HD expansion like the UK final-revision vvrsion does (which was
added at the last minute). Officially ready to ship any time now.
– A3000T/040. Tower A3000 with '040 on a card in the CPU slot, 5 megs of
RAM, and a 200 meg HD. The '030 and '882 slots are empty. I couldn't
find out pricing, ther than to get an official comment that it would be
"much better" than adding an '040 card to a normal A3000T.
– The A4000 and new CDTV add-ons to ship "this quarter" (read what you
like into that), but I was told that it will **DEFINITELY** ship before
the end of the year, come hell or high water. If you have the dosh
sitting in the bank, you WILL be able to have a AA ChipSet equipped A4000
before Christmas. These announcements were made at a local show called
the Multimedia Event (hosted by Commodore and a local dealer). I had the

from the World Of Commodore show spreads.

My BIG question is why wait until the 12th to show it? If I decided to
skip Saturday after seeing what was there on Friday, and then learned I
had missed it, I would NOT be a happy camper.
If I were CBM I would show it from the moment the doors opened, and force
people in from the streets at gun point to boot. But then again, if I were
CBM/U ….

Methinks that all the neat stuff that will be shown (if there is any neat
stuff to be shown, he quickly added, trying to play dumb 🙂 will be there
for the entire show.
"If I were CBM…" Y'know, that's probably the most common thought of the
average Amiga owner. I know I've had it a few bazillion times. 😉
When I called Ramige Mgmt, organizers for WOA Pasadena, they told me the
same basic information would be available at each day of WOA. The
different speakers on each day were to be the CBM US Pres (James Dionne),
VP of Marketing, and a Technical speaker.
If you're concerned, call Ramige in NY (their number is on all the ads for
WOA).

I had heard a rumor from someone on a local board, here in Westchester.
His advice to someone wondering which Amiga to buy was "wait until on or
about September 11"

I was just about to order a new 3000. I really need the 040, but more
importantly, I need another workstation. I could upgrade my 3000 with an
040 board for about the same price as a new 3000 right now. The need for
another machine is more important than the extra capabilities of the 040,
And the budget, as always is limited.
Now I _will_ wait until Sept 12.

Keep in mind that waiting until Sept. 12, may mean that you will be
waiting for nothing more than announcement of machines that will be
introduced R-S-N… which in CBM's case, as well intentioned as they may
be, could mean well in to 1993.
If you needed a screwdriver to do a job, and heard that Stanley was going
to introduce a new screwdriver that might be available in a couple of
months, would you let the job go undone until you could get the new
screwdriver? Or would you make due with the tolls you have until the new
tool is available? Or would you buy a used screwdriver in the meantime?
These are the questions that many of us have to struggle with nearly every
day with regard to computer hardware and software. <*sigh*>

I _need_ the extra machine now. You're right, of course. I won't be able to
buy a 4000 on Sept., 12, just drool over the possibilities. But I think
there was something else in one of the messages announcing the announcement
that machines would be available _much_ sooner than after previous update
announcements.

Huh? There have been no OFFICIAL announcements from CBM regarding what
will or will not be available or when it will or whill not be available
g>
But, just to confuse you (and me) even more… consider that IF/when new
hardware is released, that the price of new, and certainly used, A3000's
may take a bit of a tumble. Now, particularliy for someone in your
position, that's going to make the decision even harder.
It's relaly no different than buying a new car in the month of November.
Get a great deal on a new '92, or lay out the extra $$ for a new '93?
Maybe it's time that I started leasing my computer hardware (which ain't
such a bad idea for those of who use them for business!)

Here's an alternative to dicuss with an accountant — if you have a
corporate shell for your business activities, buy computer equipment
personally then lease them to your corp.
