#OS/2 2.1 & 3DS 3 -HELP!
7 messages in this thread
Has anyone gotten 3ds 3.0 to render in the background of OS/2 2.1 with the ATI
Ultra Pro video card.
Any help would be appreciated!

This will not answer you question. You were able to get 3ds to work
with OS/2 2.1 ?
I am thinking of using that so I can render and work on something else
does it work with R2?

3DS Version 3 is fully compatable with OS/2 2.1. Whether you will be
able to render in the background while working on another project in
the foreground depends on whether your video card will be able to
handle it. Perhaps someone here on the forum will reccommend some
video cards that can handle this. If you want to take a look at what
people were saying about OS/2 over the period of about a month when
R3 was first released, download OS2TXT.ZIP.
For rendering in the background, I (and others) have found that and
s3 card with the IBM-written s3 drivers works best. You have to set
3DS to use the VESA driver (not the Vibrant vesa driver but
MAIN-DISPLAY=VESA) for rendering to work in the background. You can
use the Vibrant s3 driver but rendering will be suspeded when you
switch back to OS/2. Sometimes I run two sessions of 3DS on the same
machine, one with Vibrant s3 and the other with VESA. Sometimes I
run the vesa session as a slave session and submit render jobs to it
from the vibrant s3 session.
Well, I havent gotten it to run in the background, thats what I'm
trying to figure out.
No. You need version 3.0 to run under os/2. LAM
