So, Dale: What would be _your_ recommended monitor for an A4000/040 w/ Toaster4000? It seems my cheapo VGAOnly monitor won't work with the Toaster. I guess it needs a scanning freq that's a multiple of NTSC rates. At this point, it looks like I need a monitor that's capable of _all_ modes (I've been spoiled by these new hires modes & would hate to give them up.) P.S. Cost is of prime concern. I'd like to spend <$500, but still get 14-15" .25-.28 dot pitch, etc. Thanks, Erik Flom

The Sony 1311Q I mentioned in my message to Dale is awesome (all RGB modes plus composite and S in and out and speakers) but it's certainly more than $500 (not sure how high though). There's no free lunch, but the new 1942 from Commodore might be the closest thing. Haven't seen one though. Paul.

Thanks for the info. My problem is that the monitor purchase was an unplanned expense – and I've had too many 'planned' expenses recently. :^) Erik Flom

Erik, It would seem that your only choice is to either go with the IDEK, or find an old Nanao, Mitsubishi, or NEC. I just got a Nanao 8060S, which fits the bill real nicely, except that mine has a problem with hires interlaced NTSC…which the IDEK handles nicely 🙂 //Jonathan, \\//via AutoPilot

Thanks! From the way it sounds, I'll be using this 1084 for awhile yet. :^) Erik Flom

Erik, I wouldn't settle for a 1084 if I were you. I would check out the IDEK (and get it with a 30 day return privelege). Yer tastes might not be as highbrow as some of the folks here. IDEK looks pretty good to me, but I might have only seen good examples.

Which IDEK would you recommend? I'm always willing to check it out – as you said 'with a 30 day return option'. :^) Does it scan _all_ modes? Thanks, Erik Flom

Erik, My friend Steve has the 5015 – 14" or 15" monitor, scans all modes. I have seen the 5017, and I think its a lot nicer – bigger, sharper, and flatter…but both are really nice. I believe that Creative carries both, and you can get the 17" model through IDEK DIRECT. Either way, you should get the 30 day money back. //Jonathan, \\//via AutoPilot

Thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely check them out. How much did your friend pay for the 5015? Thanks, Erik Flom

Erik, Do me a favor and drop me some E-mail next week – my friend is out of town till then. I can tell you, however, that he bought it from Creative. Hope this helps!

That should be enough. I'll give Creative a call… Thanks, Erik Flom

Erik.. I have a Idek 5017-SP and wish I hadn't been in such a hurry to purchase one. Overall the monitor is alright but I do have a very pronounced pincushion problem running regular programs, artwork in oversacan is alright. I sent a runner to pick up the monitor and when I called my dealer about the problem, he kind of shrugged his shoulders with the attitude, you bought it, now you own it… I would suggest that if you can, try auditioning one (or several) in person.. Also before you spend your hard earned dollars (do elevs make money? I thought they only exsisted in the black forest to harress Polish peasants) there was a problem with the 15 to 23 pin adaptor from C= with the NT4000 and the NT4000 will only work with the 1084 monitor. Maybe by now C= or Newtek may have corrected this, but I have heard this over the last several months and you might want to check it out before ordering.. Eddie.Ski..

Thanks for the input. The reason I am looking to buy a new monitor is because of the problem with the T4000. I still have as yet to get the new 15-23 pin dongle, so I'll have to get one of those too. I guess Idek has some sort of 30 day return policy, so I may try their direct sales line…. Thanks, Erik Flom

Erik, be careful with the Idek. You will be disappointed with a 17" because it blows up the faults. I may have been tame in my discussion elsewere on Idek compared to Nanao. Idek sucks big time. It really is that horrible. The only time it is spoken of well is if there isn't anything the spokesman can compare it to. Please be careful, we like you too much to see misery in such a good friend 🙂 –Paul < Motorola Inside >

Thanks, I still have as yet to find 'the right' monitor…. You know, I'm gettin' kind of attached to this 1084 monitor….:^) Erik Flom
