A4000 DL Transfer Prob ??? Example..I down loaded AP.lha to ram, then I moved the dl to HD1: like I normally do, now when I unpacked it, I saw that -2- files had corrupt/extraneous data. I deleted ap.lha and dl'd it again and had the same result. Now it gets strange (for me anyway), I moved Ap.lha back to to ram: and the program was intact again. Moved it back to HD1, again it was corrupt, tried HD2: same result… Moved it to HD0: (Workbench) and there was no problem at all.. HD0: (Workbench) orig IDE 120mg drive master drive HD1:(Files) HD2:(Data) on 2nd IDE 230mg slave drive.. Results were the same if I used Opus or the cli to transfer the dl… Checked the the volumes with QB Tools, found a small problem with data, fixed it and still have the same transfer corrupt prob.. Very confused… Eddie.Ski

You didn't repartition that original HD by any chance? It sounds like the same problems 1200's have when the MAXTRANSFER value is too high for the brand of HD. I can't say I've ever seen a 4000 corrupt files, but the 1200 will. It seems to affect large files most. Jim

Jim.. Both IDE drives have been repartitioned over the last few months and to be honest I have never fooled with maxtransfer values as I just don't understand them, don't even know where or how change them. Maybe it time I found out out.. Thanks.. Eddie.Ski

Eddie, Maxtransfer is set in the HD's "Rigid Disk Block" using the HDTOOLBOX program. On the Conner & Maxtor drives, this should be set to 0x1FFFE or some such hex number. At least, that's the case on the 1200. You can get at it through the 'advanced options' button of the partition drive screen. Note that it has to be set on all partitions, not just each spindle. Then you save the changes to the drive. It's generally safe to do that, if you don't touch any partition size parameters. I'd look at the Maxtor first, the stock Seagate should be OK. Jim

Jim.. Thanks, I'll check that out this weekend. I don't have a Maxtor, the master HD is a 120mg Seagate with one partition, the slave a 240mb Quantum with two 100mg partitions, the third partition 32mg reserved for Cross-PC when I get around to setting it up. Used to have Cross-PC until I added the second drive.. Eddie.Ski

Eddie, This is probably not the problem, since you indicate that your file works fine on some drives and not on others – but are you using LZ to unpack the file? It sometimes gives errors when unpacking files that work just fine with LHA. —Betty

Betty.. Ah! A lady from the neighborhood.. I'm using LHA in the C: Dir thru Opus not LZ. It seems to be a hit and miss situation, at times the files move back and forth with no problem. This is not just files dl'd from CIS, it also happens with dl's from the local MCCC BBS.. You might have a point, I'll delete LhA (v138) and try a new copy (v?) and let you know if there's any change…. Thank You.. Eddie.Ski…

Let us know if it works. Nice to meet a fellow club member online. Though I must say I have not been very active recently. —Betty
