#'W32S.386: no memory'err
8 messages in this thread
We are having problems getting the Win32s 1.475 build to operate. It starts
Win3.1 and the grahics logo appears, the the screen clears to text mode and the
upper left has the the error message:
Error loading W32S.386: no memory
We have an 486/50 EISA machine with 16M and gobs of disk that always gets this
message and an 386/20 IBM PS/2 M70 with 16M and 24M of free disk space where it
fails sporadically. Given such resources I don't think that it has a right to
that complaint.
The M70 had been working yesterday and when booted this a.m. showed this error
message, after several hours of fiddling got us nowhere, running the win32s
setup again made it go away.
Next we loaded C70 and its Win31 sdk and the message returned, we have tried
unsuccessfully:
running the Win32s setup
deleteing the C70 codeview entries in system.ini
removing the ipx/network calls from the autoexec.
removing DOskey from autoexec.
Is this a known problem with the 1.475 build?
Would using the 1.438 build make it any better?
Could Microsoft provide the best known good Win32s implemention in LIB 14?

This is a known problem with the build that was included with the 475 build.
It has been fixed in version 1.1 that is shipping now.

Does MS post the latest version to a library on CIS to make it available for
download? If not, how may we obtain it? Using the builds currently in house we
can't seem to get a proper combination of a working win32s and a working
windbgrm.exe that the 1.438 windbg.exe will connect with. Nothing has been
accomplished at all this week as we strip and rebuild the windows machine
trying to find the magic sequence to be able to debug our win32s
implementations. The latest build we have is 1.475 what do we have to do to
obtain a refresh and become operational (and how soon can we get it? :).
Seriously, this is a major roadblock and our need is pretty immediate, any help
or info regarding its resolution will be greatly appreciated.

Build 88 of Win32s (retail) was on the Internet at rhino.microsoft.com. This is
an anonymous FTP site. – Jan

Despite 2 years of UNIX background I never had occasion to do FTP downloads. I
don't imagine its something that can be done with just a 14.4 modem and a
terminal emulator or thru a compuserve gateway. I wonder why they are not
making it available in the library for this forum section. I would think that
the # users with CIS access far outnumber those with internet/FTP
access/expertise.
Jan,
Thanks, I re-read my post and noticed that I said ftp.rhino.com when I meant
rhino.microsoft.com. Unfortunately I don't type as fast as I think so I tend
to lose characters sometimes :^).

It's good to hear that you've received the final update. Please let us know
what you like/dislike about it. (After nearly 2 years spent on this it's
great to finally have it out the door.)
