You're printing EPS art from PGS on a Hewlett Packard Deskjet?! All I get are big X's where my graphic is supposed to be. A Soft Logic technician told me I need a postscript printer for EPS art. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help on this. Curt –> from the end of the world to your town (actually from the banks of the flooded Missouri)

Curt, I just select Import/Graphics from the file menu, select an EPS file, click ok in the file format box (defaults to 'Illustrator something') and a moment later I have the graphic on my screen. I can even UNGROUP and the edit it (well, not the lines themselves but everything I can do via the box handles…) and print it out via my PgS DeskJet v2.1 printer driver. There may be problems with the choice of black or white on printout, but I had these with IFF b/w clip art as well… Otherwise it should print just fine… // Chris coming in from Germany \X/ on AutoPilot 1.06………..

Chris; Just a note… not all of the PC programs used to create "Illustrator" files do the job properly (though PgS seems to handle even the "bad" files better than most other programs). -bill

Curtis: EPS files is a generic name for many different "formats" of EPS files. Illustrator is one such format of EPS. EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) is part of the larger PostScript page description language that a lot of printers have built-in. PostScript is basically a programming language which has the main purpose of describing pages, but being a "programming language" everyone has their own technique in solving a problem or doing a task. That is pat of the reason why PageStream cannot read ALL EPS files and display them like PageStream's Illustrator import module. So, in order for you to get your EPS graphics to work, they need to be in one of the Illustrator or ArtExpression EPS formats, or you need a PostScript printer. PageStream cannot read (interpret) all EPS formats. I hope this hasn't confused you. Where on the Missouri do you live? Mark @ Soft-Logik Publishing (Typing from sunny St. Louis).
