Hi,
Well I warned you. Here is the first of my queries.
I have A4000 30 with one of Commodore's new dual sync monitors, the 1942. I
have all monitor types loaded into the DEV/Monitor drawer but only the NTSC and
PAL show up in the Pref/Screen Mode window. I want to make use of DblPAL which
is in the drawer. Any idea why this should be?

Did you change your startup-sequence any? There's a part of that that
loads up the monitors.
You might try double clicking on the DblPAL icon, and then try the
screenmode prefs to see if it shows up, the problems is with your SS,
Otherwise there's some other problem.

I have not changed the startup sequence other than to put the blanker in the
startup drawer. I tried clicking on the DblPAL icon; it did not show up.
Neither did any of the other monitor icons I tried. Only PAL and NTSC.

Memory may not be functioning well (mine, not Ami's) but you don't
perchance have the VGAOnly monitor in the drawer do you? I am not certain
but it seem to me that that on inhibits modes that won't work an a VGA
only type monitor. At least it's worth checking. If it is there, drag it
to the storage/monitors drawer and reboot.

Hmmm, I seem to remeber some other 1200 and 4000 owners that had the same
problem, maybe someone else will chime in here that remebers what the
problem was.

Gday, This is how it's supposed to work:
1 – Dragall monitor icons from storage/monitors to devs/monitors (Note: Except
A2024 and Super72. The 1942 does not support those modes.)
2 – Make sure you have VGAOnly in devs/monitors as well (Allows you to centre
the display much better.
3 – Open the shell (Or use `Execute Command' from the workbench menu) and type
"delete envarc:sys/overscan.prefs" (Don't type the quotes.)
4 – In prefs/Icontrol turn mode promotion on (optional step)
5 – Reboot your amiga.
6 – Change you screenmode settings.
If this doesn't work then post a copy of you startup-sequence (located in the
s: directory.) up here, as someone may have meddled with it.
Oh… You might want to type "dir devs:monitors" in the shell, just to make
sure that the monitor files (and not just the icons) are there.

Thanks for all the help and advice. Yesterday, all the monitor types showed
up. Why I am not sure. The only thing that I did prior to this happening was to
disconect my Genlock. (The Genlock ribbon cable is flaky so I am returning it
for replacement). When I rebooted all the monitors were accessable. Could the
presence of a Genlock have influenced the system to show only those monitor
types that support genlock. I know only NTSC and PAL do, so that is the only
conclusion I can come to.

I don't know if the genlock effects anything about the monitor drivers…
Could be the problem though.

AL: Yesterday, all the monitor types showed up. Why I am not sure. The
AL: only thing that I did prior to this happening was to disconect my
AL: Genlock.
It to my understanding, that if the system detects a genlock, it will
disable (or not enable) any and all display modes that could damage the
genlock. The VGA (Multiscan), Super72, Euro36, & Euro72 use signals that
are out of the (most?) genlocks NTSC/PAL range.

Ahh.. You had a genlock connected, that would explain it. PAL and NTSC are
the only modes that can be used with a genlock.
I didn't know that the icons were disabled when you have a genlock
connected though (I don't have one.).

In all probability yes. The genlock sets the scan rates for the Ami and
thus the machine "knows" that it can not switch.

Do you have any genlock/video device connected to your A4000. This will
automaticaly "put away" those monitor types.
You could also have a hardware fault that makes it think its "genlocked"
