I've never had much luck with the various LHA / Zip versions on the Mac. They always crash for me. I've seen an LHarc for the Mac, but I'm not sure if it's compatible with the 'lz' and 'lharc' you might find in the Amiga libraries. (I think the Amiga version has newer compression schemes that might not be in the Mac versions.)

Steven, I have a friend that has a Mac and I downloaded a program from the Mac forums that seems to work with all the .lha files we downloaded so far. Let me get with him to see what the name is, or you can go to the MACFF with the keyword LHA and see if any of them are what you are looking for. Steven: It's really easy to dearchive .LHA files on a Mac. First you find a local Amiga dealer, then you buy an Amiga from him, and then download LHA for the Amiga! 🙂 Seriously now, I do believe there is a Mac program to dearchive LHA files, perhaps a browse thru one of the Mac forums would turn up the file (or better yet, the Mac FileFinder). I'm assuming that the .LHA files that you have originated on an Amiga? If so, I'd stay away from any PC LHA dearcers, as MSDOS (or MessyDOS as some folks call it) has that stupid 8.3 file name restriction that neither Amigas, nor Macs (nor most other intellegent OSes) have. I've never tried to unarc a file that does have a long name onto a PC to see what happens, either it'll truncate the filename, or worse yet it could crash the machine! // -Mike Schiller \X/ AMIGA! I don't know about the Mac, but I'm pretty sure there is an LHARC or LHA unarchiver in IBMCOM, and it should work for the Amiga files. —Betty

Steven, I found a Mac version of LHA on CServe a while ago, but it was *very* slow, and not totally reliable. However, it did work most of the time. LHA is available on the PC, and works well there. Using it with SoftPC might be a better idea than using MacLha. //Jonathan, \\//via AutoPilot
