#Pagestream Font Limits?

To all, I have Pagestream 2.2 and also quite a lot of PD Compugraphic
fonts. Informed by my PGS manual that PGS supports Compugraphic, I
installed them into a new drawer, and added the path and updated, as
per the manual. However, after a certain number (nine) had been
added, the rest caused my PGS system to not list any fonts until a
click on the scroll arrows in the Fonts/points requester. Also the
style of font comes up as gibberish, even on the ones that `work` I
looked at the fonts documentation and noticed that they had been
converted from Postscript Type 1 to CG fonts by the ProPage Font
Converter program. Is pagestream incompatible with this program`s
output?

I have this same problem after I install a large amount of Fonts in my
pagestrem. This has bothered me for sometime. Any help would be
apreciated

Try updating your font paths. Click on each path, one at a time,
then click on the UPDATE gadget. Do this for all of the paths in the
font manager. That should help.
I have added in more than 650 fonts into my system before. They all
seemed to work fine. But try what I described above, that should
take care of the problem.

have tried removing all fonts paths, exiting the program, re-loading the
program (PGS 2.22) and one by one adding the font paths again, but to no
avail – it seems that all (and only) Compugraphic fonts (CG Times,
Triumvirate, Garamond, and DL'd fonts) show this same error, namely they
seem to have no character width. This is not limited to screen display but
occurs in printout (HP DeskJet 500 and Compaq PageMarq 20 in PostScript
mode) as well! What can I do? Nearly all docs I did with PGS 2.2 or 1.8
contain Times- and/or Helvetica-like fonts… :v(

I am not going to be very helpful here except to try to assure you that
the problem is solveable. I have had that problem occur several times but
still have no idea of what happened to cause it to occur. My actions to
clear the "no-width" problem have been:
1) Resetting all font paths (in a fashion such as you have performed).
2) Delete FONTLISTv2 and add back the fonts.
3) Replace FONTEQUIVv2 and PlugIn.TypeBucket from the PgS floppies, and
perform step 2 again.
If none of this works (and it usually does work), then I repeat 3) except
that I only load Times and Triumvirate fonts and test. I realize that
this may sound much like an "old wives tale" but it seems that some bad
fonts are able to mess up the whole PgS font system.
4) If it still does not work then I delete PSPrefs file and try again.
5) Finally if it STILL doesn't work then I delete PgS itself and reload
from floppy (I think I have done that only once or twice in all the years
that I have been using PgS).
Undoubtedly Mark or Michael can provide better help but I know that this
eventually works as I have done it several times.

a thousand thanks – I deleted the files and installed (via Font Manager)
all fonts anew, they now work! But maybe it's just because I haven't
replaced the FontEquiv-file yet. As everything seems to be well I refrain
from that for the moment being ;v)

I am happy to hear that it worked. I am not too sharp on the fontequiv
file but no doubt that Mike or Mark could help you with that one. I have
done just a very little bit of playing around with the contents of that
file and have had both success and failure but not sure why (in either
case).

To SL-tech, Thanks for your help, but I have tried using update Font paths
one-by-one and it still only works with a limited number of ProPage
fontconverted fonts. Were your 650 fonts Propage fontconverted ones or normal
Postscript type I/III?

What are you converting the fonts with? Why are you converting them rather than
just using them directly?
