Do I need a special chip puller to install the MegaChip 2000? Grapevine group advertises a PLCC — is this unique for the Agnus, or can I buy one at Radio Shack? If not, is there someone here that would like to sell theirs? I will gladly pay you. Please leave E-mail if you'd like to sell. Steve Eckhart

Yes…you need a special chip puller to *properly* remove the Agnus chip. And the chip puller that Grapevine sells is NOT THE CORRECT type of puller. A proper PLCC chip puller looks similar to a double wishbone type tool. The one that Grapevine sells (unless they've changed very recently) is a simple tweezer type tool that is really intended for removing DIP chips…not PLCC chips. Most of the larger electronic supply stores sell a proper PLCC chip puller for in the neighborhood of $15.

Don, Thanks. Guess I'll run down to Radio Shack and buy a PLCC chip puller. The MegaChip is supposed to arrive Wednesday! Steve

I don't believe Radio Shack sells PLCC pullers, try a real electronics store instead. Look in the yellow pages for electronics parts and supply stores…the kind of place TV, VCR, Computer repair houses buy their stuff from.

Don, Nope, Radio Shack doesn't sell a PLCC. Neither did any of the "real electronics stores" in Omaha. One guy offered to order one for me, but I went ahead and ordered it from one of the vendors in AmigaWorld. Not Grapevine — they won't take phone orders for less than $15.00, and shipping doesn't count. The chip should be here tomorrow and the puller on Thursday. I can't wait! Steve

Steve, What vendor did you order the chip puller from and how much did it cost? Thanks. Dom Fontana –> Sent from NY via AP <–
