#Ados-> Mac Suquest?
8 messages in this thread
Is there any way (ala Crossdos) to read and write Mac format Syquest
cartridges, without Emplant or some such hardware device?
I would think that since the Syquest hardware is the same, that a device
driver and some mac2dos translation could be done with software.
Amax will probably format the drive correctly, but I want to transfer
large amounts of information from Amigados to Mac and vice versa (large
24bit pics), and I don't think either side really has access to the other
side's devices.
This comes up for me quite often and it's a pain.
Is this more complex than I think?
Thanks in Advance,
Mark Cretcher
Mark,
Emplant can be ordered with a MAC scsi port and two MAC serial ports. I
have this version and have plugged a 170meg LaCie HD and a 44meg Syquest.
With this setup the MAC side storage is *all MAC* an I have no problems
moving Syquest carts. between Emplant and real MACs.
In addition U.U. has stated that they will be releasing as
"thank-you-ware" a multi-dos file system ala crossdos. but this one will
handle MAc and Atari disk formats as well. Jim did not mention Syquests
but I'll ask him about it.

Paul,
The thank-you-ware is the solution I'm looking for. I want to forego the
Emplant and get mac files straight in (and out). It just seems to me that
with any format disk except 800K (or less), there are no hardware
differences to overcome and it should be a software only fix. It sounds
like maybe it's on the way.
Thanks,
Mark C.
Mark,
As soon as the multi-file-system is posted over on U.U.'s catagory on
Genie I'll ask for permission to post it over here.

UU has a catagory on GEnie? Don't they know this is where it's at? 🙂
At this point I'd just be happy if the UU BBS was back in action.

PMFJI, but what's the deal with UU's BBS? They were down all weekend, and
I guess it had been down for a few days before then. Have they
disappeared, or will the BBS be back again?
Thanks,

No, U.U.'s modem went down. Jim says the BBS will be back up as soon as
the new one arrives.
