David: Will the compiler transform amigabasic programs so they run on
machines with 68030 cpu's? With the installation of an '030 accelerator card
in my 2000, it was the end of AmigaBasic for me.

Why not take a look at AMOS Professional 2.0 with AMOS PRO Compiler. Much
better and a lot faster than AmigaBasic.
AMOS may well be better than Amiga BASIC and ACE in many ways, but ACE is much
faster than AmigaBASIC, has more features (although admittedly it leaves some
out), gives you standalone executables and…is free!
Take a look. You might be surprised. ACE is far from perfect, but it's useful
and very usable.

Ernest: As a matter of fact, I just unwrapped my new copy of AMOS PRO this
week. It looks promising, but to transform AmigaBasic programs I have already
written, it will require considerable rewriting to transform to AMOS commands.
Being naturally lazy, I wanted something to compile the AmigaBasic programs
"as-is" so they would work on 68030 machines. By the way, I knew the old AMOS
compiler could handle AMOS PRO code if none of the new commands are in the
code, but I did not think there was a compiler (yet) for AMOS PRO. Has it been

Hi Rick. Yes indeed. ACE runs on anything from an Amiga 1000 with Wb 1.3 to a
68040 4000 with Wb 3.0. It produces code which will run on anything within that
range also.
