Paravision Acquires MicroBotics' Technology and Product Line
January 1994:
Paravision, Inc. announced that it is purchasing the rights to
MicroBotics, Inc.'s Amiga and PC peripheral technology as well as its
product brand names. MicroBotics, Inc. is one of the "original"
Amiga-oriented hardware third parties and is well known for the
quality and reliability of its technology. Additionally, Paravision
indicated that they intend to continue to vigorously support and
further develop the acquired line with particular emphasis on Amiga
1200 and Amiga 4000 products. Paravision said that it will fully back
the warranties on all MicroBotics' product now in the field and that
pending customer service fulfillment will be handled without delay. It
has retained the services of the former MicroBotics management,
technical and engineering staff to insure product continuity and
uninterrupted customer service at both the dealer and end-user level.
The MicroBotics' product group is one of the leading lines of Amiga
peripherals. Paravision marketing feels that the Amiga platform
represents an outstanding opportunity for the video and connectivity
hardware category that is Paravision's primary business. The
engineering talent and product strategies acquired from MicroBotics,
Inc. will permit Paravision to deliver the advanced multi-media video
products which form the core of its marketing plan. Paravision also
has plans to implement some of these same product strategies in the
Windows/ISA hardware environment.
Paravision is optimistic about its launch into the world of Amiga and
PC products and the challenge of the multimedia video future its new
staff will address in the coming months.

OK, that's the press release…. what does it really mean? 🙂
I don't get your drift: what do _you_ really mean?
Paravision is a new company that is buying the properties of MicroBotics in
order to start up "running" so to speak.
The staff of MicroBotics has been hired by Paravision to operate the R&D and
sales of Paravision. The people who owned MicroBotics do not own Paravision
–stockwise it's entirely new.
Paravision is going to specialize (eventually) in video products.
That's just what was said in the press release, right?
What's unclear from your point of view.

I didn't pick up that Paravision is a new company from the press release.
I got the impression that it was an existing company with an established
product line, and it was diversifying by buying MicroBotics properties.
What else is there to Paravision besides what they're buying from
MicroBotics? What other products and/or services do they offer to the
buying public?

Paravisions products are those which are being bought from MicroBotics.
The legal entity pre-existed but had no products (that I know of).

Well, there's not a lot of companies dying to get into the Amiga market at this
point, so that was my first surprise. In short, this means Microbotics was
"bought out" and renamed? Or that new investors / business directors have
joined the company?
MicroBotics per se is not being bought; its assets are being bought.
The owners of MicroBotics are not the owners of Paravision.

Does that mean that MicroBotics is now doing other things? But you said they'd
been hired to support the old products… Either way, I hope it's all good news
for you and Jerry!

Paravision will present us with an opportunity to do video products (which we
have been wanting to do) and it will support our existing products (which is
good news for the customer base).
