#NAAUG Education SIG

Hello,
This is the first time I've posted a message here about the NAAUG Education /
Training SIG (Special Interest Group). If you're not aware NAAUG officially
recognized our SIG a few months ago. I was appointed the Chairman because of my
involvemet with NAAUG last year. Last year I was the Local Users Group
Representative for NAAUG. I am also the Director for the ATC (Autodesk Training
Center) at Memphis State University.
I recently met with Autodesk's Education Department about our SIG. They were
very enthusiastic and are committed to helping us establish our organization.
There are two short term objectives I'm trying to accomplish. The first is to
come up with list of objectives for the SIG. I would appreciate any suggestions
or ideas!
The second is to organize the first Education / Training SIG meeting at
Autodesk University. We already have number of great sessions planned. I'm
excited to announce that Autodesk's Education Department is providing an
Autodesk Simultor r12 to all participants.
The first E/T SIG meeting is at Autodesk University in San Francisco on Monday,
October 11, 1993 from 1-5pm.
I am regularly monitoring this Forum/Section so if you have any comments,

Thanks for posting this info here, Wayne has given you good advice. Can you
share details about AU here for all those that have not seen the brochure yet –
things like schedule, costs, hotel, social events, vendor displays etc.

Pat, Autodesk University is one of the largest (if not the largest) technical
software events. There are over 180 1.5 hour technical sessions relating to
Autodesk products. Everything from basic CADD to rapid prototyping. It is a
five day event with activities all day and through the evening.
There is also a 3rd party vendor show running concurrently. I don't know the
details of how many and the times.
I suggest people interested in AU call Kelly Daniels at Autodesk for a brochure
and details. Kelly's number is (415) 491-8447.
Believe it or not there are a limited number of people that can attend. I think
the number is 2500. It would not suprise me if it sells out.

Sounds like you are in the thick of things out at AU and in the Educ SIG for
NAAUG. If I can be of any help, let me know. I am over here in L.R. so we are
close, I will certainly be there at the meeting.

I posted the following response to your same post over on the ACAD
forum. I see that you've already found your way to the Educational
Issues section. Lets see what kind of issues can be stirred up.

I'm an ATC instructor near Chicago and I'm very glad to hear about this new
SIG. You may want to also drop in at the Educational Issues section over in
the ASOFT forum. That section is intended for discussion about
teaching/training techniques for all Autodesk products, not just 3D Studio.
I'll be at Autodesk University so I'll plan on making the meeting.
Some of the objectives that I think the SIG might want to consider are:
* Identifying training materials that are already available and promoting the
development of new materials.
* Providing input to the Autodesk Education Depatment as to what users want
to see in structured, multi-level courses.
* Promoting methods for evaluating training programs so that users can become
informed consumers of training.
* And above all else, search for ways of overcoming typical managment
reluctance towards including training as part of an overall CAD solution.
One thing's for certain, with all of the outlets for training/education
available (high schools, colleges, ATC's, dealers, consultants), and the
issues of testing and certification under discussion, this could well be the
most contraversial SIG in the NAAUG organization.
