#Field Rendering
8 messages in this thread
I'm rendering a project for putting to Video tape, and I have the following
question:
The total project consist of 7 project files, I render those seperatly.
After that I assemble those stills and animations with backgrounds fades
etc….
When do I render to fields??? In the final assembly or???? already when
rendering the 7 prj.files that will be assembled in Videopost to be
rerendered????
Anyone can give me some tips on this????

Not sure I completely undrstand your question, but assuming that I do – render
fields to disk at this point:
<< The total project consist of 7 project files, I render those seperatly. >>
I say this on the assumption that you have several motion elements to composite
together into the final animation piece.

Sorry I do not completly understand your reply either:
The 7 prj. files have different motions for different objects.
They will be put together in the final animation, sometimes composited,
sometimes just fading over one another.
When do I render to fields: (I see 3 options)
1. Only in the final composition (here only the prerendered images/animations
+ other images will be composited)
2. All the steps meaning: the 7 prj.files rendered to Fields, before they are
composited together
3. All the steps + the composition rendered to fields.
Which is the right way to go???
Christophe
Number 2, with the assumption that the last step is only compositing
pre-rendered images. You can turn Render Alpha & Fields off at this point. I
was considering any form of combining 2 or more images as compositing, whether
alpha/chroma/luma keyed or transitioned.

Thanks
Any time you are rendering for video you should be rendering to fields. Video
actually operates at 60 fields per second, not 30 frames per second (or 50/25
for PAL). 3DS will interpolate the motion for the fields instead of frames,
thereby smoothing the action by a factor of 2. The only time rendering to
fields is not necessary for video is when doing composites or other renders
that call up only pre-rendered images, not keyframer objects for rendering.

Just a quick note to all you PAL users…Remember to change the field
order setting in your 3ds.set file, otherwise your fields reverse and
look AWFUL. Also, if you are using something like a multigen instead
of a framebuffer, then field rendering will not work for you, and
will look like a jittery mess. Peter
>>When do I render to fields???<<
You must render the original TGA-files in fieldmode to have the
field-information in the picture when running them through videopost.
