I was hoping someone could answer this question that has me yanking all my hair
out and throwing it on the floor. I normally use Autodesk Animator Pro in the
standard 640×480 resolution. If I work in 800×600, the line quality is much
better; its almost as if the size of the working area dosn't change (both fill
up my entire 14" screen), but the dot pitch has shrunk. This makes the drawings
look much sharper and cleaner. If I now export the FLICS in 800×600 mode to my
friend who lays them to videotape, will I lose a large section of the image? Is
there any point in working in 800×600 when going to video? If it dose crop the
extra resolution, where dose it generally crop from (i.e.-evenly off all 4
sides, off the right and bottom?)

Sorry about all the hair-pulling! However, I don't know the answer to your
question. I believe that it would depend on the device which is making the
transition from your Flic to video. Some devices may have hard-coded the
method it uses (center, etc.) and you could call the manufacturer of the device
your friend has to find out.

thanks for your response. Actually, I was talking to a video guy today and he
said pretty much the same thing- it depends on the vga to ntsc converter. If
it's fancy enough, it can handle 800 or even 1024 horizontal images.

Sorry, but only your friend can answer that questions. Different boards will
handle that problem differently. Some will crop the extra screen area, and
other will scale it down so the entire image is output to tape. Be careful
though, sometimes they will squash the image out of proportion.
