#smacker/compr

Gary,
Thanks for your suggestions, i used some demoversion of Smacker and it was no
bad at all. But a company here in The Netherlands claims that they are able to
compress 1:40 and in- tergrate FLC and WAV in one multimedia file also. The
problem is that they don't want to sell the product but just want to do this
compression in service. We tried to let them compress a demo for us, but they
want money up front. Never the less it sounds to good to be true, and finale i
think i will end up by buying Smacker But before i buy Smacker i want to be
sure that there is no other/better possibility. We make a lot of
productpresentations for clients and always have to make the decission less
quality or a lot of floppies to distribute.
Thanks so far

Hi there from Vancouver, Canada…
40 to 1 is an INCREDIBLE ratio, that may be a maximum ratio attained
when compressing a flic without much moving in the scene.
I don't know any other programs which you might use, so good luck in
your search. The message preceding this may help you out, tho'.
Good, luck, Gary
Gary:
I think that the ratio they are quoting is not "flic to compressed" size.
Most compression companies quote the size they shrink a non-deltaed animation,
where we quote the size difference from flic (which is deltaed) to smk. If you
multiply the number of frames times the width * the height, you will get true
uncompressed sizes. If you do this math, Smacker generally manages 100:1 to
150:1 compression. We don't quote this size because it isn't representative of
what an FLIC file will compress to. Video for Windows and MPEG uses these
inflated ratios as well.
