#Old LaserJet questions

[Posted both in HPPER/LaserJet and AmigaUser/DTP]
A fellow member of my Amiga user group recently bought a used HP LaserJet
(not II, III, +, or anything, just LaserJet) from someone who had bought it at
an auction. It came without manuals or anything. It appears to have a serial
interface and seems to be clean, well-cared for, and when turned on, nothing
bad seems to happen. He wants to try to use it with his Amiga 2000, and any
information about it would be useful.
Specifically:
* will he be able to get a User Manual for it?
* if it is in fact a serial interface, is it a standard RS232C?
* are toner, cartridges, etc. for it still widely available?
* will it work with Workbench's HPLaserJet driver?
and so forth.
So far he hasn't even tried to hook it up or print a test sheet. He didn't
have it at the meeting, so I have no idea of the serial # or anything like
that, but I could get it if it is needed.

Pat,
HP has a forum specially for such questions. Go HPperiperals. They might
need a serial number (so they can identify what your friend has), but they
could answer every one of your questions.

We can help you with a driver, but for info on the right toner cart, users
manual etc. HP's the guys to help you. You're right…just address a
message to the sysop with your questions. Or skim the messages and look
at the headers, till you find one from HP support, and use that address.

Pat,
Since 3 of your 4 questions dealt directly with availability of stuff
for the printer…I can't answer those questions. As to whether the laserjet
driver will handle the printer…it should, not having a LJ to test it with…I
can't say yes for sure.
