Hey folks, so if you were expecting a new DPaint. What kind of features do you think should be in the product? Just doing a little user research. All feedback is welcome. Since I'm not on CIS too often, please cc: me at oguzman@ea.com. More to follow later…. Orland Guzman, Assistant Producer, EA Creativity

An AREXX port !!!!Please!!! It's about time that the Dpaint supported Arexx. I consider DPaint part of my productivity software, and, SERIOUS productivity software on the Amiga has an Arexx port. There are many, many things I would do with DPaint if I could automate it…. Also, native Dpaint support for GIF, JPEG, XBM, PBM, TIFF,PCX, etc. other major graphics datatypes (It would be ok to use AmigaDos Datatypes for this). Also, use standard ASL requesters everywhere. Adopt the CBM GUI standards (ie, the AmigaDos 2.1, 3.0 look and feel).

How about a DPaint 3D module? Something like Virtus WalkThrough would be great!

Support for the Retina Z3, for one! And the GUI could use some refinement. I'll have to work on specifics 🙂 DJ

Need to run on 3-party graphics cards.. Add path following of animbrushes (ala deluxe video) Picture morphing? Waterbrush painting…(at least on AGA/3-party boards. Simple Sound triggering off an animation frame? Arex input/output?? the last two is because Dpaint is more than a static paint program.. -Tom-

I second Joe Veazey's requests! 1. Full featured ARexx support 2. ASL requestors After you have completed those, then you could start thinking about enhanced animation support primarily in terms of synchronized sound support! Of course, if EA updated Deluxe Video III, then animation sound support would not be as important <grin, wink, hint..>! EdV

I can now think of these: – Support for as many graphics cards as you can find, Retina, Picasso, IV24, EGS, etc… by using video drivers (it CAN be done, look at Emplant MacII emulation…) – Advanced drawing tools such as airbrush, and simulation of other materials, watercolours, pencils… (look at Fractal Painter) – Virtual 24 bit handling for AGA systems, like Adobe Photoshop, everything, regardless of screen mode, is managed in 24 bits – AN AREXX PORT!!! PLEEEEEASE!!! – Different format loaders & savers (JPEG, GIF, TIFF…) or at least support for 3.0 datatypes (they area a GREAT idea and easy to implement) – Support for different anim types (Anim5, Anim7, Anim8 with byte, word or long compression types) and eventually CDXL, FLI/FLC… – Make it a little more OS-friendly, use standard Intuition screens, so it can be mode-promoted and RTG'd – Some 3D more advanced than the actual perspective controls – Filters, contrast/luma/chroma balancing… – Alpha channel support … and all this in just 10 minutes of thinking! 😎 They are not in any order, some of them are just dreams (or not?) but there are some needed ones. Please tell us MORE about the next DPaint (V?) David Santamaria. …from Basque Country with AutoPilot.

Son muchos anos trabajando con el DPaint (desde la version 1.0!!!) incluso realizando trabajos profesionales con un grupo de dibujantes y animadores. Al final acabas conociendo muy bien la herramienta con la que trabajas… A ver si el DPaint 5.0 incorpora algunas de ellas 😉 (in English:) It's been a lot of years working with Dpaint (from version 1.0!!!) even producing professional work with a group of artists and animators. You end up knowing deeply your tools… Let's see if DPaint 5.0 includes some of them 😉 David Santamaria. …from Basque Country with AutoPilot.

Need speed!

The fact that there will be a DPaint5 is the best news I've heard in a long time! Here's what I'd like off the top of my head: * Full as possible ARexx support. * Movable tool box. * 45 degree slash brushes (along side the single pixel, squares, etc.) * Full 24-bit painting. * Save in IFF24 and GIF formats. * GIF loading. * Multi-palette animation support. * Variable speed anim playback. * Ability to add sound to anims and sync sound to anims. That should keep you guys bust for a while! Thanks.

1. Make a "floatable" palette (like ol.dayes) 2. Fix the antialias bug when using perspektive scale size the antialiasing in v3 was fine but in v4 you have to rotae te brush 180 dg. to get OK aliasing 3. Make it aware of FPU for perspektive+++ 4. Faster animsaveload (take a look at Scala) 5. Std. OS2 requesters. 6. I kind of "Alphasuport" and "softedge" support 7. A REAL airbrush 8. Possible to make full 8bit(256colors) ranges. 9. CALL YOUR ABSOLUTLY BEST CUSTOMER: Bjorn Rybakken (designer of Scala userinterface and fonts, working at Bates Strategic Design) who have been working all day and all night for nearly 8 years (first man buying A1000 and Dpaint 1 in Norway 1986) mostly in Dpaint all the time. How about Ability to change the palette between frames of an animation. Aspect ratios OTHER than Amiga and square (there ARE others being used out there) A way to 'texture' a picture

The ability to change palettes on different frames of an animation would be nice. Streamline the user interface! If I bring up the "Goto frame" requester, why do I have to revert to the mouse, aim carefully at that tiny field, and click on it? The field should pop up already activated. Double-clicking on a filename should select the file. I should be able to move from field to field using Tab/Backtab, with Return as OK and Escape as Cancel. Basically, follow the current Amiga user interface guidelines. If I'm working on a very large image, it takes forever to scroll from one side to the next! I should be able to "Show page" and click on the area I want to scroll to. Do you still have those nasty Enforcer hits? Baaaad software developer, no cookie. It's hard for me to come up with more suggestions. I find DPaint a pure joy to work in. It's the single most responsive program on my Amiga, and its almost-perfect interface makes every function painless to use. Its main problem is my Amiga 3000's limited color resolution, and that's no fault of yours. I wish 16 colors were enough these days, so that I could create artwork in DPaint _much_ more often. It's truly an exhilarating experience every time I use it. Blaq!

Orland, Lots of improvements can be made but full 24 bit paint support for all major graphics cards—including OpalVision—is a must. In fact, take a longggg look at OpalPaint and include its features as a STARTING POINT. The lack of 24 bit paint support has turned me toward OpalPaint for the time being but I'd like to come back. Try to keep the size small by possibly having different versions for different 24 bit boards. Secondary improvements would include support for more anim methods, better morphing, 24 bit anim support, incorporation of simple video transitions, more standardized 2.0 look & feel, iconization, etc. ———————————————-Don- via Whap!

A British Amiga mag (CU Amiga), has pictures this month of what they claim is a preview version of DPaint 5 – is this the version you are talking about (still in development), or are you talking about the next version (6? 5.5?) _ARexx_ and _Speed_ are what we need!!! Cheers, Mat.

In a message you sent to me: >Multi-layer onion skin and multi-layer compositing with stencils and gray >scale transparencey masks… >wmc – via Autopilot! I agree (probably)! But maybe you should have sent this to Electronic Arts and not me! See ya, Mat.

Been a rough week. I had a job come in on Tuesday, the 26th, for supposedly 4 seconds of animation. By the time we edited the final commercial together it ended up with 20 seconds of animation, one script change, two voice-overs and a long product table-top shooting session. All this was done in six days. I ended up with 91.5 hours in on it, with another 103.5 machine rendering hours all in that six days. I haven't quit recovered yet, even, and they are making noises like they two more before I leave for NY. So I'm like more veggie than usual. BTW, if you get the Madison Square Garden Network, that commercial should be running there now… It was targetted for the NY audience. wmc – via Autopilot!

Ok, you could give me a hint as to what the slot is about, or am I supposed to look for your unmistakable touches<g>? Well, you can't complain! Where else can you bill 91.5 hours for 4 seconds worth? See you soon … DJ
