We have a program called RAZOR which allows you to import sequential TGAs and
convert them to an AVI as well as export an AVI to sequential TGAs. In addition
it allows you to composite sequences of TGAs together using their alpha
channels or using chroma keying, transparency, blue screen, green screen, still
and travelling mattes etc. You can also apply image process- ing effects like
ALdus Gallery Effects and Kai's Power tools to the images as well as do
transitions between sequences of TGAs. We can also import and export FLCs, and
FLIs as well as AVIs and sequences of BMPs.

I assume you are using Vid for Windows? You can extract .BMP files
sequentially by selecting "Extract" and selecting which frames you want (i.e. 0
to 90). Select extract dib sequence. Since 3D Studio doesn't recognize .dib,
name your save file name*.bmp. It will save the sequential files as
name000.bmp, name001.bmp, etc. Then use name*.bmp in Video Post to render, or
assign it as a material… You can even render it as a flic… Hope this
helps, it took me a long time to figure this out!
If I understood What you want. You Want to go from AVI to TGA.
There is a program in the Utiles directory that is an AVI to TGA converter.
There is also a program called VFD (Video of DOS) this can convert TGA's to
AVI. I am an old pro at this and it works well.
I use VFD to create AVI files then Edit then in ADOBE Premiere then convert
them back to TGA files and play them back in real-time With the VTV2000. End
result Video Tape.
