#GIF Loading Problems

Hi, I'm having a problem reading in GIF files that are sent to me by my clients. When I read it into both PPage & ImageMaster the there is no image, only a mixed up mass of pixels (it sorta looks like an old VCR in Fastforward mode with horizontal lines.) I have read the files into PeeCees and the applications are able to read the files ok. When I save as TIF or some other format and port back to the Amiga I am able to read the files ok. I have tried to recreate the problem by converting Windoze BMPs to GIFs and then porting to the Amiga but that seems to work OK. Can anyone think why I might be having problems reading these files even though they are apparently ok? Are there different versions of the GIF format? I am able to load files from CIS ok. Andrew: There are 2 different versions of GIF, version 87A and version 89A. The 89 version has some extra features, such as being able to add file comments to a GIF file, I think GIF animations are also possible with 89, but I'm not sure. These differences aside, both programs you mentioned *should* be able to read either version, so something else must be wrong. I don't know why, but for some reasons some programs have problems reading files created by different sources, as an example I have an IV24 board which can capture video, and several times I'll grab a file that no Amiga programs can seem to read (they have an error such as 'Malformed IFF' or some such), but if I move them over to my PC I can read them without any problems with programs that can read IFF, so go figure! // -Mike Schiller \X/ AMIGA! Mike, Thanks for getting back to me. Is there a way to know which type of GIF one is saving or using? The weird thing about my problem is that both PPage and IMR/t showed the same messed up image which lead me to believe that it was an Amiga thing (ie. how files are loaded, etc.) I will have to do some experimentation to see if I can narrow down the problem. I've never seen a failure loading a valid GIF file. How about uploading an example of a file you know to be good yet can't read on the Amiga? -sja

You should get Pagestream 3.0 when it comes out. No problems there with GIFs. Have you tried running them through ADpro? DJ

Eulogio, >> You should get Pagestream 3.0 when it comes out. No problems there >> with GIFs. I intend to go for the upgrade (finances permitting). >> Have you tried running them through ADpro? No, I don't have it. Thanks, Andrew ICAM ActiveMedia Development
