Dear Dave, I didn't know that I can type READ WAIT at the forum
prompt. I type READ, get the menu, and type 3. I don't have Tapcis or
Wincim. I have Procomm Plus. Jeffrey.
I believe you can get Tapcis, WinCis, WinCIM, and other great CIS front ends
for next to nothing by downloading them from forums on Compuserve. I believe
WinCIM is in the WUGNET forum, and is a free Beta version right now. It seems
to be popular and easy to use. You will have much greater control over what
messages you get and reply to, and it will be easier to navigate your way
through this miasma of information.

Dear John, I log into Compuserve, go to ASOFT forum, type READ WAIT,
capture messages in a file, log off, read and write messages, log
into Compuserve, and upload new messages. I do the same thing on
Delphi on-line service, in the PC SIG forum. Is there a command that
lets me read messages non-stop? I don't want to press "ENTER" after
each message. Jeffrey.
I don't know of a program that lets you read non-stop, but all other
Compuserve navigating programs are definitely better than Procomm
Plus, which really wasn't designed for compuserve. With the other
packages you just download all the messages and read them off-line.
That's quite a bit faster and less expensive than reading while
you're in the forum. And the interfaces are designed to deal with
Compuserve a little more logically than Procomm, which just puts you
in terminal mode with Cserve.
Dear John, Do you know of freeware CIS navigating programs for DOS? Jeffrey.
I think OZCIS is freeware. I'm not sure what forum it's in, but it is
available for downloading from somewhere on Compuserve. I'm sure someone will
jump in and let you know where exactly to find it. I think it, or any other
navigator, will make your compuserve communications much easier and more
enjoyable.

OzCIS version 1 is still freeware, version 2 [2.0c(1) to be exact] is $25
shareware, the best money I spent in communication since dating! <g>
Either can be downloaded from the "GO OZCIS" forum.

Jeffrey – I've got ProComm Plus too, but I can't help you out 'cause I've
never made it work with Compuserve. I'd recommend Tapcis–it *does* cost $79
to register it–but most of the other similar programs are free; e.g.,
Wincim, Ozcis, etc.

Dave: Procom + will work with CIS but you need to set you communications for E,
7, 1 rather than the standard of 8N1
That's Even parity 7 word length and 1 stop bit.
CIS is the odd ball for these settings. Don't ask me why, I just know that
works.

Hi Dave.
I just downloaded CSNAV ($30 with $10 usage credit) and it's excellent.
I've scripted my daily session (which I used to do by hand) after looking over
the interface for a few minutes. It's quite easy to use, and now all I have to
do is push a single radio button and in a minute or two I've got thread
summaries waiting to be marked. Another minute or two (yeah, right…) and all
the messages are downloaded.
I can definitely recommend this navigation tool. I've been using DosCim and
Wincim and have resisted navigators for quite some time, but this sure beats
what I've been doing (wasting time, money).

John – well, I keep thinking maybe it's time I joined the 90s <g>. I did
download all the Ozcis stuff and it looked too different from Tapcis so I
backed away from it.
Where do you find CSNAV?

just GO CSNAV. It's $30 with $10 usage credit. I love it, and it's only my
second time using it.

I've been using a new program called GoCIS (formerly WinCIS when it was in
Beta). It can be downloaded from GO WUGNET. Windows based and full featured.
It was written in Visual Basic, so lot s of people are writting add-ons for it.
There is already a utility package which adds Mail distribution with "group"
definitions.
I used to use TAPCIS … then OzCIS .. I like this one the best of them all.

I think he's doing everything just about right as far as what he needs to do in

Yes, Procomm+ is actually very expensive and awkward to navigate in
3DS compared with the more advanced navigators. I only mentioned it
because it was said that procomm wasn't working. Usually the
protocols 8N1 are to blaim for this as CIS is different from standard
practice.
