#2000 crash
8 messages in this thread
I am having trouble with my 2000. It started when I attempted to install the
latest version of MUI. At the end of the installation, I rebooted as requested
by the install script Now my machine crashes when launching some software. For
example, AutoPilot and Term crash, but Final Writer does not. I attempted to
remove all of the MUI installation, but the effect is the same.
I also looked for some connection with the serial port, with no luck. At times
I get a ramlib error #80000004.
My 2000 has a GVP combo board with 9 meg, one meg of chip ram, GVP IOextender
and a flicker fixer.
I realize this is probably insufficient info, but thought someone might have an
idea.

Jim,
It's a long shot, but I just resolve 8 months of frustration with my GVP 040 —
turns out I was pulling to much on the power supply after I added memory and a
PAR…
Just $0.02 worth..
Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't think it would be the power supply, because
I have made no hardware additions for over one year. The problem just arose
last night.
Jim — on line with my Psion.
I'd say the MUI installation "replaced" one of your libraries, and some
other software on your machine is incompatable with the new library.
This happened to me last week when I installed DesktopMagic…
For what it's worth, DesktopMagic replaced req.library, and the new
version is incompatable with my DataFlyer SCSI driver.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! I reinstalled my
libraries from my system floppies, rebooted and the problem magically
disappeared.

Jim,
Can you tell us WHICH library was the cause of the problem?
Steve
The asl.library seemed to be causing the problem. I kept the suspect
libraries and tested them singly.
The version of asl.library that works is 37.27 (29.4.91). The version
causing the trouble is 39.4 (18.8.92). I believe this second version is
meant for Kickstart/Workbench 3. I am presently running 2.04.
I found no reference to asl.library in the MUI installation script.
I also reinstalled MUI 2.0 after replacing the libraries, and it works
fine.
I don't know how that library was installed.
