Paul, The Abnormal Program Termination error is indicitave of a memory conflict happening on your system. Most likely some of the drivers from your targa, VTR controller, video cards, etc. are conflicting with each other. Strip your system of any non essential drivers you may be loading. For example, if you have a sound card in the system, don't load the device driver. Also, make sure you have the proper memory exclusions for all the remaining device drivers in your system. Which memory manager are you using? If you don't have it already, you might require one of the "power" memory managers like QEMM. QEMM has a memory diagnostic program called manifest which I personaly have found invaluable in setting up complicated systems. -Brian

Thanks for the quick responses everyone! I stripped my config & autoexec to bare bones and have had no lock-ups yet (fingers crossed). I have narrowed the guilty driver/conflict down a bit already… I was using emm386 until this week, and now use qemm…what a difference! 16 megs of ram, but always short on conventional memory…not anymore! The switch to qemm did not solve the lock-up problem on its own, however.

AAAAAAACCCCCKKKKK! Spoke too soon! It locked up again. Here's some extra info: 1. It always locks up right at the beginning of the "preparing maps…" phase. 2. Certain complex scenes/objects cause it to lock up more often than others. 3. Pressing ctrl-alt-del after lock-up begins the reboot sequence, but I get an error message that my hard drive is not bootable. I need to press reset to reboot. The only drivers I haven't eliminated yet are two Targa+64 drivers, my Sanyo GVR-S950 VTR driver, and my Corel scsi cd-rom driver. The Corel is next to go.
