Hi folks,
I'm moving out of my house and into ….. nowhere! I'll be reachable by CIS and
my regular phone numbers have been rerouted to a relatives. Meaning you'd get
my answering machine or fax machine and you could leave a message or page me,
if necessary. I'm renting a postal box and that would be the best/only place to
mail stuff (US, FedEX, and UPS acceptable). If you have a record of my address
please change it to the following:
Box 407
27068 S. La Paz
Laguna Hills CA 92656
ta ta!
Martin,
O.K., should your message bring concern to us?
Being outside is not a possitive thing unless you planned it, and your message
seemed like this was not of your choosing. Is everything copacetic? If Alan
won't let you in, we'll bring you out to this coast.<G>
Paul
Martin and Andrea have standing invites, Paul.<g>
Actually, we're gonna help 'em move tomorrow and will probably try to drag 'em
back to Escondido for the rest of the weekend.
-Alan
Alan,
I knew you'd come through for them. Martin's message seem a little harried and
I was concerned that maybe something negative was in the wind. I know you're
there for Martin, but I wanted to make sure he knew that if he needed anything,
we'd be more than glad to assist.
I hope everything's O.K.
Paul
Paul,
I should have phrased my message a little better. It did sound a little sudden,
I suppose. We sold our house after almost 10 months of having it on the market.
It was uncertain if the deal would go through until yesterday.
We are going to rent property from now on to be more mobile and have the
freedom to work on projects wherever they come up. For now, we'll probably stay
in a local hotel. Our stuff is going in storage. Although I'm still gainfully
contracted to an LA game developer, I've had an interview at a more local game
company and will hopefully get a job offer (3d art director) starting October,
or so. In the meantime we are going to take a month rail trip around Europe,
especially the Greek and/or Spanish islands. No point in paying rent until we
get back. Should be a blast, eh? Fishing, snorkelling, admiring the naked
tanned bodies, not a computer in sight …. will I survive? Maybe <G>.
I must say I'm touched by yours, and others, concern. However, there's nothing
to be alarmed about and I actually feel like celebrating since we're free from
the house at last 🙂 Probably end up in a nicer place, for less, albeit as
renters on a temporary basis.
Martin
Martin,
Sounds great! You had us worried for a while there. <G> We just wanted to make
sure you weren't out under the stars unless it was due to your choosing.
Now that we have the whole story, I'm jealous. I'd probably give up my house
and take off to the islands to fish, if it wasn't for the children. And the
fact that a couple of production companies would sue me. <BG>
Good luck with everyhting. We'll be looking for reports on those tanned naked
bodies.
Paul
Paul,
>> We just wanted to make sure you weren't out under the stars unless it was

In a fairly decent hotel actually, right now. I like being under the stars, but
it's hard to run a business from in that situation.
>> I'd probably give up my house and take off to the islands to fish, if it
wasn't for the children. <<
Yeah, got to do it while we can. Andrea's maternal clock is ticking and she's
putting the pressure on me to submit to children in the next couple of years
<g>.

Martin (and Andrea!),
Hey that's cool. It seems like most of my friends have opted for no kids
and I think that's a bit of a loss. Well…what do you expect a father of
two to say anyway <G>.
Oh, you havn't lived till you can still get that project done with a 5 year
old wanting a drink of juice and an 11 year old wanting to play Doom across
the network! <BG>
Hope everything is working out with the move and tell Andrea that Irene says
hi.
Later,
Ralph
Ralph,
thanks for the well-wishes. Kids are in the 5-year plan <g>. I think we'll be
ready soon <g>.
Martin,
Best of luck and have a blast!
Being "homeless" in your situation actually sounds quite nice, and I have to
say that I'm a bit envious.
– Phil
Phil,
>> Being "homeless" in your situation actually sounds quite nice, and I have to
say that I'm a bit envious.<<
I'm very happy and have no complaints 🙂
Wow…. I'm really jealous, Mishter Fishter… Raise a glass of Uzo for me on
one of those Greek islands.
Awww…..
– G
Gary,
>> Wow…. I'm really jealous, Mishter Fishter… <<
Aren't _you_ due for your semi-annual, month-long, vacation to an isolated,
tropical, retreat? <g>
I think everybody should take 2 months off per year and commune with the
fishies. But so few small-business types actually do 🙁
All I get this year is 5 days of camping in the high desert in the Sandia's in
NM. ("all") Instead of depth and decompression, I'll have altitude. I'm
hoping to take a couple of weeks off in January, but have no plans yet.
I agree with you about 2 months off per year. With that, I think that one
could go on indefinitely. American burnout syndrome (abs) has turned into some
sort of virus.
– G
Gary,
>> American burnout syndrome (abs) has turned into some sort of virus. <<
Agreed. To think people can work at full intensity for 50-52 weeks per year is
totally absurd. Frequent short trips or a couple of long trips are the
antidote.
You guys keep this up and you're gonna convert me!<g>
-Alan (yeah, yeah, lessee…with two months off a year I can go to Fiji, Japan,
Hawaii…)
Alan,
>> yeah, yeah, lessee…with two months off a year I can go to Fiji, Japan,
Hawaii…) <<
That's the spirit! Wonder why you want to go to the Far East and Polynesia? <G>
Martin
We used to ALWAYS get (or take) 2-3 months off each year to travel.
Until my daughter started wearing the pants in the family.
Now…I just work here. Watch out for those biological clocks; more things
change than just diapers.
Have fun JB Gaviota Graphics
Jim,

Oh no! Don't scare me! Actually, we've had 8 years with no rug rats to spoil
the fun, so maybe it's our duty to cut it out <g>.
Martin

or off
JB
Ouch!

I'm definitely jealous. I'm craving a month off somewhere. Europe would be
perfect. No such luck for me, though.
I'm glad you finally sold your house. Things do seem to be picking up in Ca as
far as real estate goes.
Have much fun, and stay in touch…
John Tissavary (LUNA cie, inc)
John,
>> I'm glad you finally sold your house. Things do seem to be picking up in Ca

that's another story, entirely. Sales have picked up, but not prices. We sold
ours for a _lot_ less than we bought it. We're not getting any cash out of the
deal. It's still good to be free of the burden, though 🙂
Martin "Bedouin" Foster. Sounds like a cool trip. Much luck w/ the new mobile
lifestyle.
Wade,
>> Martin "Bedouin" Foster. <<
That's right, a bit of a nomad am I <g>.
Geez Martin. First Glenn & now you ? I hope eveything's OK.
BILL
Bill,
see my message to PaulL. Nothing to worry about, just sold the house is all.
Will move to a hotel and then rent for the meantime.
Have fun, man.
BILL
Bill,
>> Have fun, man. <<
you can count on it!
Martin:
You can always move into our office – we still have the sleeping bags and cots
set up there from our last project!
Greg Pyros
Greg,
>> sleeping bags on the floor <<
very kind, Greg <g>. See my message to Paul for "the rest of the story".
Martin:
Now on these naked tanned bodies, does that include you? I can hear you now
exclaiming after a hot day in the sun, "I've got a sore bum!"
Bob
Robert,
>> Now on these naked tanned bodies, does that include you? <<
Absolutely! Well actually, naked but white/burnt. The Greek and Spanish islands
are pretty free-wheeling when it comes to attitudes to nudity. At the very
least, I could go topless <G>.
Congratulations on your appearances in this year's SIGGRAPH demo tape. I am a
big SPAWN fan and am curious what the application is… You were doing some
game work at one time, no?
thanks and congratulations, danno
Dan,
>> Congratulations on … SIGGRAPH demo tape. <<
Thanks very much. I was honoured to be included in such a great tape. They get
way better every year.
>> I am a big SPAWN fan and am curious what the application is… You were

The "Spawn" piece was part of a pitch to win the contract to do a 3d Spawn game
on the upcoming Sony PS-X platform. Still don't know whether it's a go or not.
I've primarily been involved in the 32/64-bit games industry for the last 8
months and slightly involved before that ("Rebel Assault"). That's where the
fun (and money) is right now 🙂
