1. Get the new Vibrant Inline Driver Ver 1.02
2. Try to configure your MGA Monitor Setup to
"Multifequency Up to 90Hz (or Less/more)"
3. run "3ds vibcfg"
4. choose vibrant for all options instead of rcpadi
and choose the "MGA II" in the listings.
The new Vibrant Drivers are in the forums librarys
This should work.

Speaking of which… I just got a new P5/90 with an Ultima 4meg, and I can't
get vibrant/3ds to find the MGA chipset. All other programs, including windows
and mga setup can find it no problem, just not 3DS. Any ideas?

To anyone running a p90.
Does your board have an Intel chipset? In configuring 90's with non-Intel
Csets, we've found VERY serious compatability problems. Oh, alot of
applications my run, but the stuff you can't buy at CompUSA may be a problem
<g>. Check your BIOS. Try not shadowing the card. Be sure and test all your
video modes (just in case you havn't all ready) during config. I hope you've
got ALL your PCI adapters set to int A and have the slots configured on the
board (I've found not all MB manuals tell you to do that!). Call the Vibrant
BBS and check it against yours. Set your rendering display to RDPADI; set
RDPADI to the Matrox card. If 3DS raises your blood pressure by not liking
this, and you have an ADI driver for your card, try this…
copy your drivers to a another subdir.
set RDPADI env. to point there. <—(If you used v2.0, you'll know how. If
not, contact your reseller)
tell vibrant your rendering display is rdpadi.
after vibcfg runs, the adi will come up and ask you various questions. After
that, it should create/modify
… a configuration file for the ADI driver.
(Reason: I've found some video cards to be peticular under 3DS. And
I've used just a few. We are also HardWare distributors who deal in surplus,
So… We buy the latest for a project and sell it as used afterward and bring
in a new configuration… [guess who gets to troubleshoot!])
This way, vibrant only uses 1 or 2 of it's modes for your card, While it
renders to an ADI driver. Can be more stable, and this also somewhat emulates a
two monitor system.

Big time thanks for the info. I'm running a Supermicro MB, which uses AMI bios
and, I believe an OPTI chipset. I has reservations about the board, and told
my dealer that if there was a compatibility issue I'd have to exchange it for
the lower performance (unfortunately) but higher compatibility Intel MB. We'll
see what happens.
the really curious thing is that ALL other programs find the MGA board no
problem. I really think this is some sort of Vibrant issue (not that the
software is bad) – maybe some switch is set wrong on my system, or there is a
hardware conflict.
BTW, I can't get QEMM's OPTIMIZE to run w/o crashing the system. Could be
chipset problems. Everything else is solid as a rock, though. PC's are so
strange.

I gave it a try, but it didn't change a thing. I'm completely convince it's
the OPTI chipset on the motherboard. The chipset was designed for a dual
processor board, and uses a revision of the PCI 2.0 standard that is designed
for dual processors. I have the sneaking suspicion that the Vibrant drivers
are looking for the single processor rev of PCI 2.0
I'm swapping the MB for an Intel tommorrow. Unfortunately the Intels aren't as
high performance as the Supermicro, but compatibility is more important in the
end.

The problem was, indeed, the OPTI chipset. It uses a multi-processor PCI spec
that the vibrant apparently can't relate with. I swapped out the MB for an
Intel Neptune based one, and now everything is peachy.

I just ordered a couple of Intel "Plato" P90 motherboards today. These are
Intel manufactured, using their Neptune chipset and a flash AMI bios. Is this
what you got? It seemed the best one I could track down, at least according to
the performance/reliability specs. Anyone have have any comments on these
boards, good or bad?

I don't know if I've got flash bios, but I've got the Neptune chipset. The AMI
bios seem pretty no-frills.

Yes. I've found the Opti's VERY fishy. I'm getting a dual processor board in
with an Intel Chipset. (Soon I hope!!) So… I'll tell you how it goes.
I'm curious to hear if Intel makes a more "compatible" dual processor chipset.
