Hi All,
I am so <very> frustrated. Having enlisted the services of you guys on this
forum to investigate what drive to buy, my boss now feels that his budget can't
stretch to it. Less than a month ago he was telling us to think of things to
buy because he was underspent and didn't want to have next years budget cut.
I don't know why we bother.
I'm still desparate for a way to copy 105 meg of data from one amiga to
another. Is there an Amiga equivalent of the pc program Laplink ( or Fastlink,
which is the same and what I use), so that I could just tag a directory and
send it down the serial or parallel port from one to another ?

There's nothing as easy as LapLink. There is a program called Twin here
in the libraries that would work for you. It command line drive though,
so it wouldn't be as easy to use.
On the plus side, there a version for the PC, so you could use it to
transfer to/from a PC too.

Hi Robert,
I've not heard of that program over here, is it a commercial program, or is it
shareware ? I did a search on this forum's library and didn't find it. My other
problem is that i'm writing this message on a pc, so if I could download it i'd
still need to convert the file from pc floppy format to amiga floppy format.
Perhaps if it is shareware or pd I might be able to get it from one of the pd
companies here in the U.K.

If your Amiga has AmigaDOS 2.1 on it, or you have CrossDOS, your Amiga
will be able to read MSDOS floppies…

We definitely don't have Crossdos, don't know about Amigados 2.1, is there an
equivalent to msdos ver command so that I can tell ?

there are several programs available in the libraries here.
MLDOS1.LHA, MSDOS1.LZH, and MESSYF.LZH. All are located in the AmigaTech
libraries.

The easiest way to check the version numbers, is to pull down the
workbench menu on the workbench and select "About…"
The version of Workbench is the important number, and it should be 37.?? .
I'm not to sure of the axact one you want though. (I put away my 2.1
machine…)
What Amiga are you using, and how old is it?

TWINEX.LZH in library 11 of AmigaTech. It only requires a null modem
cable.

Just hook the two amigas up with a null modem cable and run a terminal
program, I like VLTjr, on each machine. Select send file on one machine
and receive on the other.

I missed the start of this thread, but did you consider networking these
machines?

I'm after a simple way to archive approx. 100Mb of data from one A3000 so that
I can reinstall it to identical machines if needed later. The obvious way is to
use a SCSI tape streamer, but my boss won't go for the cost, more's the pity.
Networking them seems a bit of overkill <gr>.

null modem cable, as I understand it.

As Brian mentions, TwinEx is a good way to go, and as well, there is always
PARNet, which is considerably faster.
