I am going to go ahead and purchase the PAR. It has been suggested to me by
the reseller that I will need the following..
One Digital Processing Systems Time Base Corrector $960
One Micropolis 1.0 GB IDE Hard Drive $855
or One Micropolis 1.7 GB IDE Hard Drive
$1,163.63
This is of course with the PAR itself. Will I need more or none of these
things?
I would like to be able to bring in video as well.. should I consider the DPS
VT-2600 card or the Video Spigot <– (don't know if that is how it is spelled)
by Creative Labs? Thanks for any suggestions.

Unless you _are_ going to take in video, you don't need the TBC 4. If you
are, then you do.
If you're not familiar with the PAR… here's the scoop on the drive
situation…
The PAR requires a dedicated IDE drive – to operate. You mount the
drive in your system where you want, but the PAR connects to it with its own
cable. You don't hook it to your existing IDE controller. DPS only supports a
few drives currently because of disk transfer requirements, including the
Micropolis drives you mentioned.
I have the 1.6 GIG drive that you listed, and I haven't had any trouble. From
what I understand, the DPS people recommend the Micropolis drives
the most.
I'd recommend getting the TBC 4 from DPS as opposed to another video
input device – simply because of the price, and mostly because of the
interaction that needs to take place between the PAR and the input device.
You're better off going with the product that is meant to interact with the PAR
for that money.

To capture video the best companion IMHO to the PAR is the TBC-IV board also
from DPS. Your other choices are slower and may not yield the resolution you
require.

Just a suggestion –
Shop prices.
I got the 1.7 G Micropolis from Hard Disks International (Insight) for $929.00
plus $8.00 shipping. Digimation offers the TBC IV for eight hundred something.
Also, I just learned from DPS that their is a conflict between the PAR software
and firmware on the newer drives – this should be corrected within days. If you
experience problems, call DPS support, and ask them about the firmware version
number that appears when the system boots and recognises your drive. You can
also read the first panel after invoking "PARTEST" from the PAR directly.
