#Hard drive Problems!!

I'm having problems with my harddrive. When I boot up, I'm told I have a
checksum error on a certain block…I just hit the cancel on the requestor, and
my amiga finishes booting up. But now, I can't delete anything from my
harddrive because my computer says it's not validated.
This happened when I tried to copy a file to my hardrive, and my hard
drive was full. My computer rebooted and from that time on, I couldn't save or
delete anything. My local amiga dealer wants to charge me $40. just to look at
it….(I don't think so,….can anyone help?)

I think you need disksalv 2.0 or better, 2.0 is its version number not
the dos it run under. It will work on I think all ados version 1. 2or3
and up. I recently took the time to figure this thing out, and used it to
unformat a drive of my friends a2500. Some data was lost but it was like
.6 of a %. It's online here down load to a floppy and go to work.
Remember I got rolling w/ just the enclosed docs. I think it could help
w/ a checksum error? I could be way off on this, if I am someone will let
you know.

Its possible that when you attempted to copy the file to your HD it found that
there wasn't enough room and so created a blank file.Load a Shell or CLI and
list the contents of your HD.If you find the file that you attempted to copy
just delete it. Then use Diskdoctor to validate your HD.It does automatically
whenever it is run.
If the problem is more complex get back to me and I'll see if I can provide
another answer.

WRONG…
1. You can't delete any file on a disk that did not validate ok.
2. DiskDoctor is an _obsolete_ tool, running it may increase problems.
DiskSalve by Dave Haynie is recommended to resurrect disks by now.
The best thing to do is to backup, reformat and restore.

Never, ever suggest to anyone to use Diskdoctor to recover a hard drive
partition unless you like to see people trash their hard drives <g>.
DiskSalv is a lot safer and can fix more problems.
