#Changing drives

We recently installed a Micropolis 1.6 gig hard drive in out T4000 system.
When I use any of the pop-up menus, say to Load an object, the requester offers
me the choices HD0, HD1, DF0, etc. The new hard drive is called DH1. How to I
go about chaning the parameters in Lightwave, or the Toaster as a whole, for
that matter, so that it reflects the name change on the menus. I tried
changing the name of the drive to HD1 but when I boot up, the computer can't
find DH1.

It could be that the Amiga is not seeing the hard drive on a cond boot. I
have a 540 Meg. Seagate on my 4000 along with the standard 120 Meg. that
came with it. For my system to see the Seagate, I have to do a warm boot.
The larger drives just don't spin up fast enough for the Amiga to see then
when it does a cold boot. Workbench 3.1 might fix this, I have it on order
and will report if it does when I get it.

You have to change the config files. Look for a file called lw-config and
load it into a text editor. There are the presets for the 4 buttons in the
file requesters in that file. Just change them to match your system. You
can use assigns for the paths for the buttons so you could have one for
Toaster: or images rather than just the drives. I think there's a config
file for the switcher and Toasterpaint as well, but virtually all my
expertise on Toaster systems is with LW so I haven't tried to set up other
parts of the system. It's also a good idea to keep a spare copy of your
config files in case you screw something up.

Thanks for the advice. I am taking one of the Lee Stranahan seminars this week
and I raised this question. HGe talked about changing the LW_Config file like
you suggested. He also said, and proved to us, that even if you delete the
LW_config file, the system will generate a new one using the original default
settings so you can mess it up all you like and it "fixes" itself.
