My colleague is working with Dpaint, creating some very nice animations that I would like to be able to use in a PC based mm authoring package. Does anyone know how I can convert (either on the Amiga or PC) .IFF files to ones that will be acceptable to PC. .AVI etc. many thanks Peter Ward

Peter, If you have a PAR on the Amiga or even ADPRO (with Professional pack) you can convert them to .tga(.tga's only on the PAR), tiff, or gif formats with ADPro. There is probably a PD software package that will convert them that I am not aware of but I am sure you will get more replies than just mine.

Peter, You have several solutions open to you. Autodesk Animator Pro on the PC can load Amiga anims and convert them. I believe Corel has a converter as well. On the Amiga you need ImageFX. It can load Amiga images and animations and save them out to PC images or animation format. Kermit Woodall Nova Design, Inc.

Do you know what version of Corel might support Amiga ANIMS?

No, the Corel reference was only through someone else who told me about it. I'm sure it would be the most current one. The big "gotcha" with all conversions of Amiga anims to PC animations is that the PC programs mostly do lackluster conversions and often even fail to support HAM. I've yet to see one support HAM8 for sure.

Kermit, Ok, thanks. I have an Amiga based presentation which I have be trying to figure how to port to Windoze but all the solutions seem to be more complicated than it is worth. As I have Corel3 I thought maybe it would make things simpler.

There is a Windows shareware program called Paint Shop Pro which you can download from one of the Windows or Graphics forums. I forget which one. It will read both Amiga .IFF and DPaint files. They can then be saved as TIF or whatever you want. This program has a very nice interface – very slick.
