Does anybody know what happens to the Toaster's 75 ohm terminators
when you turn the Toaster on or off ? We have the Toaster's inputs
connected to cameras, and also TEE'd to the inputs of an external
switcher. When you turn the Toaster on or off, the external switcher
goes kerflooey (technical term); otherwise it works okay. I heard
that early Toaster boards (which I think this may be) didn't have
input buffers, but I'm not sure of it makes a difference here. Thanks
for the help.
Am I being stupid, or wouldn't powering up or down wreak havok with
any external gear expecting stable sync?
I dunno…if it is designed to appear as a constant 75 ohm surge
impedance (or open circuit depending upon what is configured) no
matter the state of the board (on or off), it seems like it shouldn't
mess with anything downstream. If it determines the configuration
from the saved project upon boot-up, and switches them on/off at that
time, then you're probably right.
Jim: I just happened to be fooling around connecting 2 toaster
systems tonight. I had one machine up and running and powered up the
second machine. The output of the non-powered toaster was connected
to the input of the toaster already powered up. I had that input
selected, and noticed a definate level change in the signal coming
from the toaster that was just powered up. It certainly looked like
the signal was momentarily un-terminated, then terminated. This was
without actually booting the second toaster, just powering up the
computer. Something?
Thanks, Trent. What I had was, in effect, a camera output going to two
switcher inputs (Toaster in parallel with other switcher). It seems
the terminators appear to switch on and off while it's checking to
see what their configuration should be. It would be nice if it left
them as they were when last powered down, unless the config indicated
otherwise.
