Gregory, Can you tell me if it's possible to use an NEC PC-VCR Model #PV-S98A with 3DS to record single frame to S-VHS? I know that your company has written drivers for several single-frame devices. I have access to this unit which is currently collecting dust on the shelf. Also, did you release any new IPAS routines at SIGGRAPH? Can you send me a current price list on all your IPAS stuff? Just want to add that you and your co-authors have done a great job on "Inside 3DS." Can't wait to see the "Special FX" volume. Only one complaint on the book – Lots and lots of typos. Thanks in advance. David Swoboda 7970 N. 47th. St. Brown Deer, WI 53223 (414) 357-6477

David: I'm not familiar with the #PV-S98A or whatever it is, sorry about that! >> Only one complaint on the book – Lots and lots of typos. Yes, the first edition had a few! The second printing has most of them cleared up, by the way, and added a few appendices that got dropped in the first printing. Greg Pyros

PMJI, but how do you know whether you have the first of second addition? My book makes no reference, I suppose that perhaps that means it is the first addition. Zac (AZ-TECH) Berkeley

Zac: One way to tell is that somewhere between the first edition and second edition, I think that Phil's picture and mine got switched on the inside front cover. On the second printing, he's in the middle, on the first, I am. Greg Pyros

The NEC PC-VCR is not a frame accurate recorder. While it can do some insert edits, the edits are +-2 frames. From David Carroll

If this is the same PC-VCR which has been out for a few (3-4) years, it's not single frame accurate, I think it's something like +/- 5 frames. m.

Hi, just lurking around and saw your question. I was a beta site for the PC-VCR a few years ago, and we found that while it was not FRAME-ACCURATE, we were able to record a series of frames using a basic routine. The problem is not that the recorder is not accurate, but that the flying erase head is not clean. There is a noise pulse on the first field of each edit. This has been confirmed by the factory, and they did not see it as a significant problem. We got our money back, and I believe that NEC has dropped the product. Sorry. Jim Pope Denver
