This may be a silly question but can you move IFLs (or other rendered
sequences) to the PAR to playback in real time or must you only render to it as
a VTR to create animations? My mental model of this thing is still a bit
fuzzy…

The PAR looks like a DOS drive to your system. You can just copy out any
series of Targa files in whatever order you want for playback.
