Can anyone tell me if there will be a new version of Animator Pro in the near future? I have been working with it at school, and I plan on doing more animation on my own. However, I feel that this program needs a little work, especially if I'm going to spend over $700 on it. – Michael J Sheldon "Falcon", msheldon@crl.com – When we are planning for posterity, we ought to remember that virtue is not hereditary. Michael, Sorry, Autodesk does not talk about future products or releases. However, stick around the forum, this is the first place we will make an announcement. -Brian

I guess you have not worked with other 2D applications, otherwise you would realize that the combination of that software, in conjunction with it's wonderful documentation, is the best on the PC so far at that price. Speaking of common sense. I hear Animo has a 2D package for windows for about about $15,000. <G> Jeff

Jeff: >> I hear Animo has a 2D package for windows for about about $15,000. <G> Actually, it runs only under NextStep on PCs. Very impressive package! Greg Pyros

Speaking of common sense.<< Actually, you are 100% correct. I have an original copy of Animator, and used Animator Pro at school. However, I have never seen the manuals for Pro, and it seems that much of the capability would be difficult to explore just by "poking around". From what I've seen of various flics in the libraries, Animator has more capability that I was ever led to believe. I doubt my instructor knew it could do some of the things I saw. To my knowledge, there are no aftermarket manuals for Animator, does anyone else know different? I'll still have access to the school's computers for another year and a half, so I can play with it there for awhile yet. >>I hear Animo has a 2D package for windows for about about $15,000. <G> << Yeah, I've heard of it too. Supposedly, it's very good. However, $15,000 is astronomical. – Michael J Sheldon "Falcon", msheldon@crl.com – When we are planning for posterity, we ought to remember that virtue is not hereditary. <<To my knowledge, there are no aftermarket manuals for Animator, does anyone else know different?>> I, too, have been searching for such books. The only one I've been able to find was on the 1/2-price rack at Comp-USA called: "The Best Book of Autodesk Animator" by Deke McClelland, 1990, SAMS Publishing, Carmel, IN (a division of McMillan Publishing in Carmel, IN). It's a very definitive book for version 1.0. – Jolie

There is a book called "inside Autodesk Animator" as well. Most of these books are out of print as Animator 1.0 was phased out. This is the software they were written for. Just read the documentation with great intent. Then experiment with each feature as much as possible. You really have to work with it. Jeff

Hi Micheal, MS>"I feel that this program needs a little work, especially if I'm going to spend over $700 on it" GH> Gutsy comment for an AutoDesk forum…what work would you add & how much would you pay for it? GH

>> GH> Gutsy comment for an AutoDesk forum…what work would you add & how much would you pay for it? << Yeah, well, hiding my opinions is something I'm not too good at. <G> I guess most of all, I'd get rid of the interface, and start over. I've found it slow to work with, and counter-intuitive. Other than that, I'd like some object-type manipulation. I'd rather not have to render every individual piece before moving to the next. Being able to re-position, and modify things at any point is a big advantage. Think 3D Studio, if what you just did isn't quite right, you can usually change it with little trouble. – Michael J Sheldon "Falcon", msheldon@crl.com – When we are planning for posterity, we ought to remember that virtue is not hereditary. PMJI, >> I'd get rid of the interface, and start over. I've found it slow to >> work with, and counter-intuitive. I've read similar comments from others on this forum and yet, I've always found the interface to be simple and very intuitive. In any case, I'm always up for more speed and ease of control – so I'm curious. What would make the AAPro interface faster and more intuitive? JDH
