I have just received DTS several days ago — and I'm trying to get the feel of
the rich feature set.
My question is this — I would like to write notes that aren't associated with
either an address book entry or event, in other words, notes not associated
with anything. I've not found a way to do this. Can this be done?

I'm afraid they have to be attached to something. Here are a couple of
examples that might help. You can create an address book entry called "notes"
or "misc." and attach any notes to it. In the Calendar you can type in "notes
for today" or "general notes" on an event line in the calendar and attach notes
to that (keep it floating if you want to see it everyday).
