I have a flying logo with a scanned in background. What is the easiest way to have the background bit map fade to white leaving the logo against a white background? By the time of the fade the logo will have stopped moving if that makes a difference. Any suggestions for a newcommer to 3ds will be greatly appreciated. Thanks all, Steve

Steve: You could apply the background to a box, and have it morph to white over the course of your animation, or You could render the logo with alpha on against a black background and then composite it against the proper background in video post (my choice). Greg Pyros

Greg, I think I will try rendering the logo with alpha and then composite it against background in video post. I've never tried this before but I don't know any other way to learn. Thanks very much for the response! Steve. P.S. I love Inside 3d Studio

Steve: Try it, you'll like it! Let me know if you have any other questions on it. Greg Pyros

BTW – are there any national chains (like Walden or Dalton's) which carry the book? I can't seem to find one here in Charleston…

Mike: Yes, I'm sure a few of the nationals have picked up "Inside 3D Studio", not sure which, though! Just call around, or you can order direct from New Riders Publishing, many 3DS dealers, or my old company at (714) 957-1616. Greg Pyros

>>any national chains (like Walden or Dalton's) Yes, you can get it from either; you just have to go up to the desk and order them. John Stetzer JWS

If the logo is truly stopped by the time the fade is called for, just render it (logo) over a white background and fade this still image in over your final frame in Video Post. As long as the logo is not moving and identical, only the background will appear to change. m.
